The National Catholic Youth Conference, currently taking place at Bembeke in the Diocese of Dedza, is bringing together young people from all eight dioceses of Malawi for formation, fellowship and mission. Among those taking part are Scouts from the Diocese of Mzuzu, who are proudly representing Catholic Scouting Malawi at this national gathering.

The conference is equipping young people with important lessons on protecting children from trafficking, proper waste management and care for creation in the spirit of Laudato Si’, as well as becoming “Digital Missionaries” who use digital platforms to evangelise. Through these lessons, Catholic youth are being encouraged to become protectors of life, stewards of creation and witnesses of Christ, united in faith and mission.

Diocese of Karonga Catholic Scouts Rally 2026

Bishop Martin A. Mtumbuka delivered a powerful message to the Catholic Scouts at St. Mary’s Karonga Girls Secondary School, where they are holding their own annual rally.

He stressed the importance of self reliance, both as a group and as individuals, emphasizing that the Church needs young men and women capable of sustaining themselves if it is to grow.

"I urge the scouts in the Diocese to be self reliant. We need young men and women who are able to support themselves," he said.

Over 200 scouts from the Diocese are attending the four day rally.

A team of Malawian Scouts has departed to South Africa to participate in the 2nd Africa Scout Moot taking place from 1st to 8th August 2026 under the inspiring theme "Phezulu Nangaphezulu" a Zulu phrase meaning "Higher and Higher."

This continental gathering will bring together young adult Scouts from across Africa and beyond to celebrate friendship, leadership and adventure. For the Malawian contingent, the Moot is a unique opportunity to represent our nation, showcase our rich culture, strengthen international friendships and exchange knowledge and experiences with fellow Scouts from different countries.

During the Moot, participants will engage in outdoor adventures, leadership and skills development workshops, community service, cultural exchanges, environmental conservation activities, and intercultural learning experiences that will shape them into responsible leaders and active citizens.

We wish the entire Malawian contingent a safe journey, every success and God's abundant blessings throughout the event.

Three Scout leaders from Lilongwe Archdiocese Catholic Scouting were honoured to participate in the Safe from Harm Capacity Building Workshop hosted by the Scout Association of Malawi. The workshop brought together representatives from Scout National Support Organizations in Zambia 🇿🇲, Namibia 🇳🇦, Zimbabwe 🇿🇼, and Malawi, providing a valuable platform for learning, collaboration, and sharing experiences on safeguarding within the Scout Movement.

The workshop covered key safeguarding topics including case management protocols, roles and responsibilities in safeguarding, new constitutional frameworks for Safe from Harm, Safe from Harm assessment methodologies, reporting mechanisms, and the development of SMART action plans. These sessions strengthened participants' knowledge and capacity to promote safer environments for young people in Scouting.

The workshop emphasised that safeguarding is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration both within and beyond the Scout Movement. Lilongwe Archdiocese Catholic Scouting remains committed to implementing Safe from Harm principles and ensuring that all Scouts grow, learn, and participate in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to applying the knowledge gained to strengthen safeguarding practices across our Scout units.

🙏🕊️ The year 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of Father Jacques SEVIN’s return “Home”, following his death in Boran-sur-Oise (63 km from Paris, France) on July 19, 1951.

To commemorate this anniversary and prepare for the event, the Sisters of the Holy Cross of Jerusalem, who live the Scout spirituality, invite you to send your testimony related to Father SEVIN. 🏕️⚜️

💭 Some points for reflection:
• What has impressed you most about the life of Father SEVIN;
• What inspires or helps you today in your group or in your personal life;
• What message from him do you wish to pass on to young people?

📖 The Sisters will gather all contributions in a BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE, a beautiful testimony of thanksgiving for all that you have received and discovered through Father SEVIN.

📧 Please send your text to the Sisters ([[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])) before June 25, 2026.

Yesterday, Catholic Scouts of the Lilongwe Archdiocese showed commendable service during the burial ceremony of Fr. Damaseke. The Scouts actively assisted in the liturgy, helping to ensure that the ceremony was well organised and conducted in a respectful manner. They also played an important role in maintaining order, guiding people and supporting the smooth flow of the programme.

Fr. Damaseke will also be remembered as the first priest to accept the establishment of Catholic Scouting at St Patrick’s Parish (Area 18), a decision that has continued to shape and inspire many young people.

We are deeply grateful for their dedication and commitment. The blessing given to the Scouts by Bishop Vincent Mwankhwawa was a clear sign of appreciation and encouragement for their continued service. We thank the Lilongwe Archdiocese Catholic Scouts for their outstanding contribution.

May his soul rest in peace.
