SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS: THE BARRIER TO EXPERIENCING GOD’S FULLNESS

Last week, from Mark 7:24–29, we learned that taking offense hinders us from experiencing God’s fullness. Today, we see another barrier, self-righteousness. In Matthew 19:16–22, a rich young man encountered Jesus but walked away sorrowful, showing us that it is possible to meet God and still leave unchanged.

The young man trusted in his own goodness; he had a checklist of commandments he believed he had faithfully followed, assuming this made him worthy. But when Jesus asked him to let go of his possessions, his heart was revealed. His wealth had taken the place of God, becoming an idol - not because wealth is wrong, but because of his misplaced devotion.

This shows that God’s fullness is not attained through good behaviour. Good behavior should already be a natural expression of who we are. True fullness comes from a surrendered life. When we are full of our own righteousness, we leave no room for God to work within us.

Like the rich young ruler, we may know the law but miss the Lawgiver. God desires relationship, not performance. When we lay down every idol and fully yield to Him, His presence becomes evident in our lives.

Refuse self-righteousness, and embrace a life fully surrendered to God. May you be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man (Eph 3:16)

The story of the Greek (Syrophoenician) woman in the Gospel of Mark teaches a powerful lesson about faith, humility, and the fullness of God.

In Ephesians 3:14–19, Paul kneels before God and prays that believers may experience the fullness of God. The fullness of God means the complete expression of His character, attributes, and grace working in our lives.

In Mark 7:24–30, we see a woman who discovered a profound secret: the fullness of God can be found even in the smallest things when God is involved.

Her story is not only about the healing of her daughter but about the faith we must have when approaching God. She came to Jesus with humility, falling at His feet. Even when Jesus said, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs,” she refused to be offended. Instead, she responded with humility and faith, saying that even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the table.

Her response teaches us several important lessons:
• The fullness of God begins with humility at the feet of Jesus.
• Never approach God with a sense of entitlement.
• Focus on the goodness of God rather than your own goodness.
• Faith begins where pride ends.
• Refusing to take offense is often the key to receiving your miracle.

This woman showed remarkable maturity and faith. What could have offended her instead became the doorway to her miracle.

Sometimes the greatest obstacle to our breakthrough is offense. A miracle can be missed simply because we allow ourselves to be offended.

Even the smallest portion of Jesus’ grace is powerful enough to drive away every problem.

Let us learn from her example: seek God with humility, faith, and a heart that refuses to be offended.

Real strength starts from within. In Ephesians 3:14–19, we are reminded that when Christ makes home in us, we become firmly rooted and grounded in God’s love, love far greater than human understanding can fully comprehend.

Our inner well-being is shaped by the environments we live in. The experiences we go through and the influences we absorb from childhood into adulthood can either strengthen or damage a person. Mental and emotional struggles often show up through signs like fear, irritability, loss of interest, unhealthy habits, or even physical symptoms. Yet as children of God, we are called to bear good fruit- love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control - because what fills the heart is what eventually flows into our words and actions.

Let Christ take His rightful place within us. Healing begins with honesty, humility, accountability, and a deliberate decision to change. Rather than living in denial or pride, we are called to seek God personally through His Word and walk in His truth.

As taught in Philippians 4:8, we should fix our minds on what is true, pure, and admirable, allowing God’s love to restore and guide our hearts toward wholeness.

Ephesians 5:22
"[22] Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. [23] For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. [24] Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

GOD`S FULLNESS - By Snr Pastor Bonaventure Chidzaro

As we continue to lay the foundation for the year’s theme, God’s Fullness, we return to Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3:14–21. This prayer highlights Paul's desire for believers to be firmly rooted and grounded in God's love, which serves as the unshakable foundation for both our faith and our lives.

Standing in God’s love establishes our identity and shapes our conduct. As children of God, we are called to reflect His nature and demonstrate that His fullness is actively at work within us.

Colossians 1:19 affirms that all the fullness of God dwells in Christ, and Colossians 2:9–10 tells us that we are complete in Christ. Our position in Christ is therefore secure, sufficient, and complete, requiring no additional rituals or human effort to earn God’s love. Our identity, security, freedom, and authority are fully grounded in Christ, who is supreme over all powers and authorities.

Ephesians 3:19 is a prayer for the visible expression of what we already have in Christ. It calls for our established position in Him to be manifested in everyday life through our thoughts, character, and relationships under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Wherever we are, the fullness of God within us should be clearly evident in the way we live and relate to others.
