Assalam Alaykum.
It's been a while, how are you?
Today, let's understand charity.
In Islam, we are encouraged to do a lot of charity work and Alhamdulillah most of us embrace the teaching. We help the sick, reach out to those in need etcetera.
However, there is a group us who also think that what we have is not enough to share or incorporate others to end the hardships they are facing. We think that only the rich are responsible for sadaqa.
To shade more light, in Malawi, a significant number of Islamic projects are either moving at a slow pace, or completely failed because of funds. The Islamic university in Mangochi, Blantyre main Masjid, Al Taqwa Masjid at ginnery corner, the plans of having a University at Blantyre Islamic Mission, just to mention a few, are some of the most notable projects that can testify that we, in the Islamic commuty, are disjointed and more of recipients than givers.
There are a lot of Islamic institutions and groupings in Malawi alone and across the world who claim to be doing Islamic and charity work yet amongst them only a few can survive if it weren't for donations made by the Arab countries and organisations, in which almost a third of the donations goes into the pockets of administrators than the beneficiaries themselves.
It is time that Islamic youths stand on their own and come up with ways to sustain our lives, whilst we reach out to those in need with our own little pockets.
Let's learn to give out than to receive because there is not a Hadith or Ayaa in the Quran that shows that in the hearafter we are going to get a reward for being successful recipients.
At last, it is not how much you have that makes you qualified to give charity or to do charity work, it is how much your heart is willing to be one of those that bring change to someone's life that makes you a generous person.
