AU Anti-Corruption Dialogue in Arusha: Rev. Maulidi Pushes for Stronger Whistleblower Protections

The African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) has convened its 8th dialogue in Arusha, Tanzania, focused on enhancing whistleblower protections as a vital tool in Africa’s fight against corruption. Under the theme, “Effective Whistleblower Protection Mechanism: A Critical Tool in the Fight Against Corruption,” the two-day event is bringing together leaders, experts, and advocates to review current protections, identify best practices, and strengthen support for whistleblowers across Africa.

Malawi’s Rev. Baxton Maulidi, Deputy General Secretary of CCAP Blantyre Synod and Economic Justice Champion for the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC), called on state actors to “walk the talk” on anti-corruption. He stressed that effective whistleblower protections are crucial for real progress, urging accountability not only from governments but also within faith organisations, which he noted are not exempt from these issues.

The dialogue will also launch the African Asset Recovery Practitioners Forum, aiming to boost asset accountability continent-wide. As discussions progress, participants are pushing for measures that would empower citizens to report corruption safely and foster greater integrity across Africa.

The Chikwawa community, with support from the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) and the African Faith Actors Network on Climate Change, held an important workshop to address climate change. Led by District Forestry Officer, Mr. Hector Kandawire, the session focused on reforestation and restoring natural ecosystems. Rev. Baxton Maulidi, AACC’s ambassador, highlighted the crucial role of faith communities in driving these efforts. Together, we can restore our environment and protect it for future generations.

UNITY AND PROGRESS: MPACHIKA CCAP'S INDUCTION CEREMONY HIGHLIGHTS CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY

On April 14, 2024, Mpachika CCAP witnessed the induction of Reverend S. Idana as its new Moderator. The ceremony, graced by esteemed guests including CCAP Blantyre Synod Moderator Rev. Dr. Zghambo, Vice Moderator Rev. A Kapinda, and Deputy General Secretary Rev. Baxton Maulidi, was marked by moments of solemnity and reflection.

During his speech, Rev. Baxton Maulidi urged church members to prepare for Malawi's upcoming 2025 General Elections. He emphasized the importance of voter registration and encouraged all eligible citizens to exercise their right to vote. Rev. Maulidi cautioned against the influence of handouts, urging voters to make informed decisions and vote wisely. He also passionately appealed for a rejection of political violence, stressing the need for peace and unity in the electoral process.

In addressing Reverend S. Idana directly, Rev. Maulidi called upon him to prioritize unity within the church and to focus on driving development initiatives for Mpachika. His words resonated with the congregation, igniting a sense of responsibility and hope for a better future.

The induction ceremony served not only as a formal transition of leadership but also as a call to action for church members to actively engage in the democratic process and work towards the advancement of their community.

CCAP BLANTYRE SYNOD RECEIVES MAJOR DONATION TO COMBAT EARLY MARRIAGE.

Today, as part of the outgoing NORAD funded Securing Children's Rights through Education Programme (SCREP), Save the Children Malawi has generously donated assets worth over MK800 million to implementing partners including CASDO, CCAP Synod of Livingstonia, CCAP Blantyre Synod, Mwanza District Council, and NGO CCR, marking the culmination of a successful five-year implementation. Among the assets are vehicles, laptops, and printers.

In attendance at the ceremony, the Deputy General Secretary for CCAP Blantyre Synod, Rev. Baxton Maulidi, emphasized the significance of these items in the ongoing campaign to inspire, encourage, and motivate girls and the community to prioritize education over early marriage.
