[24] Pendant ce temps, à plusieurs centaines de mètres au large, le bateau luttait contre les vagues, car le vent était contraire. [25] Vers la fin de la nuit, Jésus se dirigea vers ses disciples en marchant sur les eaux du lac. [26] Quand ils le virent marcher sur l’eau, ils furent pris de panique : C’est un fantôme, dirent-ils. Et ils se mirent à pousser des cris de frayeur. [27] Mais Jésus leur parla aussitôt : Rassurez-vous, leur dit-il, c’est moi, n’ayez pas peur ! [28] Alors Pierre lui dit : Si c’est bien toi, Seigneur, ordonne-moi de venir te rejoindre sur l’eau. [29] – Viens, lui dit Jésus. Aussitôt, Pierre descendit du bateau et se mit à marcher sur l’eau, en direction de Jésus. [30] Mais quand il remarqua combien le vent soufflait fort, il prit peur et, comme il commençait à s’enfoncer, il s’écria : Seigneur, sauve-moi ! [31] Aussitôt, Jésus lui tendit la main et le saisit. – Ta foi est bien petite ! lui dit-il, pourquoi as-tu douté ? [32] Puis ils montèrent tous deux dans le bateau ; le vent tomba. [33] Les hommes qui se trouvaient dans l’embarcation se prosternèrent devant lui en disant : Tu es vraiment le Fils de Dieu.

[24]and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
[25]Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.
[26]When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
[27]But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
[28]“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
[29]“Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
[30]But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
[31]Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
[32]And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.
[33]Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
