Morocco
Vigon is Morocco’s Soul Man. Born Abdelghafour Mohcine in Rabat in 1945 and immersed in rock music through his American friends at the US Base in Morocco. At 19, he decided to go to Paris to give it a try himself. A dance floor animal, he got noticed at the Paris rock haven Golf Drouot. He needed a group and he had an extraordinary one: ‘Les Lemons’ with the famed Michel Jonasz at the piano. The adventure lasted two years. With his second group, he recorded ‘Harlem Shuffle’ in 1967, which was covered ten years later by the Rolling Stones. He also played in first part of Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Bo Diddley and Sam & Dave. He’s definitely a must see. Vigon is the soul man with a voice half way between Johnny Mattis and Sam Cooke.
