*THE DIVINE-HUMAN FOLLOW-UP*

*TEXT:* ACTS 9:10-16.

10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.
11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,
12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.
13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.
15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

*Timeless Truth:*_"And some days after, Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us get back and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they fare"_ (Acts 15:36).

*INTRODUCTION*

All believers in Christ are commanded to be directly, actively and personally involved in the Great Commission of preaching the gospel to every creature. It is an assignment with a definite purpose of winning and disciplining converts for Christ. No responsible parent is expected to just dumb their newly born babe somewhere expecting him to mature on his own without definite, diligent and demanding care, nurturing and mentorship. The new converts are also called babes in Christ regardless of their biological age or social standing. Paul the Apostle was converted through direct encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. How was he follow-up? It is an example of a model divine follow-up to be followed by every believer in Christ.

*1. Divine Follow-up Partnership*

a. Saul, before his conversion, was on a cruel mission of arresting, maiming and killing Jews who professed faith in Christ when he was supernaturally arrested by the Lord Jesus Christ while on the way to Damascus. Immediately he professed faith in Christ, by calling Jesus Lord. Jesus, without wasting time, made an arrangement for his follow-up through the human vessel called Ananias. There should not be a waste of time in arranging for follow-up of a convert. Ananias got to Paul within three days of his conversion. *"And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias"*. This was a disciple of Christ that was never mentioned before and after this incident in the Bible. However, he was spiritually sound that he could receive visions and directly hear from God. A true disciple of Christ who will be a successful soulwinner and mentor must be spiritually sound that he can receive revelations and visions directly from the Lord. Vision here is a broader term for spiritual sight revelations from God that includes dreams (when natural eyes are closed in sleep) and trance (when natural eyes may be opened). A lukewarm and spiritually insensitive person cannot be effective in the service to the Lord. It may be instructive to note that Jesus Christ used Ananias to follow-up and also do water baptism for Paul. He needed a man to do it. He needed the partnership of a faithful disciple for effective follow-up. Follow-up requires more human and constant interaction with the converts. The faithfulness and prompt obedience of believers are necessary in the follow-up new converts .
b. *"And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord"*. A true disciple of Christ who would be successful in disciplining others must be available, accessible, anointed and active for the service of the Lord. He was able to receive distinct and clear divine messages as to where to go, who to meet and what to do. Such are the people who will succeed and be effective in soulwinning and follow-up.
*"Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth"*. God also informed him of the vision Paul had received in the vision God gave him (Ananias). *"And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in"*.

*Question*

Do you have the credentials of a faithful disciple like that of Ananias?

*2. The Disciples Faithless Pessimism*

a. Ananias was not positive about the conversion of Paul. Obviously, he felt that though God can save all souls, Paul has crossed the line of conversion. An aggressive murderer of saints, unrepentant pharisee, fanatical follower and violent defender of the Law could not have been converted. God can save anybody and we must be optimistic and full of faith in discharging our responsibility of preaching the gospel to every creature. Furthermore, every person has his pasts. We must not use the past of someone to judge his present once the person has truly repented. There are cultures where they are interested in maliciously digging into the past of a person that is seeking a higher position though the person has repented and changed. This is not the will of God. *"Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem"*. Ananias himself, being a growing disciple began to give the Lord information as if the Lord did not know. *"And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name"*. Jesus, the Omniscience Saviour, had the knowledge of what was going on more than Ananias himself.
b. Prompt obedience to the Lord without excuses is what befits a true disciple of the Lord that is following the Omniscience Lord. It should be observed that the excuses of the disciple did not make any change in the demand of Christ. It was just a waste of time and demonstration of faithlessness and unbelief. "Just obey. When His message comes to you, there is but one thing to do, just obey".

*Question*

Are you consecrated to always obey the Lord without allowing any excuse?

*3. Defining Favour For Paul*

a. Paul received favour from God. His past was totally forgiven without being reckoned with and he was given a clean record and a new beginning. Such is the status of every person that repents from his sins and embraces Jesus Christ as His Lord and Saviour. *"For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more"* (Hebrews 8:12). The Lord did not change His command based on the excuse of Ananias, but He expected him to repent of his excuses and obey the Lord. It is the disciple giving excuse that will have to change and not the Lord giving the command. *"The Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me"*. See how salvation changed someone from a rejected and damned vessel in the hands of Satan to a chosen and blessed vessel in the hands of God. Every believer is a vessel in the hands of the Lord though vessels are of different sizes and qualities. It is either you are a vessel in the hands of the Lord or a vessel in the hands of Satan.
b. There are always peculiar blessings and revelations to those who are all out for the Master's business. At this time, the Apostles had ruled out the salvation of the Gentiles from God's plan and the gospel. They were only reaching out to the Jews including those in the diaspora. However, here was an unknown disciple that God gave the revelation that the Gospel will extend to the Gentile nations and Paul will be a great instrument in achieving that. Christ said that Paul was chosen *"to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel"*. At times, obedient disciples are given more insight into some spiritual things than the great preachers. *"For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake"*. Paul did not pass through severe sufferings because of his sins since those sins were forgiven, but for the sake of the name of Christ just as Jesus suffered not for His sins but for the sins of mankind.

*Question*

Are you a vessel in the hands of God or in the hands of Satan the enemy of God and of your soul?

*Prayer Points*

1.Lord, I want to be more fervent spiritually. Empowered me with fervency, anointing and gifts of the Holy Spirit 🙏.
2.I hereby consecrate to You to be a willing, available, active and accessible servant of Yours. Send me to do whatever You will 🙏.
3.I plead that the blessings and revelations of obedience will always be mine 🙏.
4.Deliver all Your children from giving excuses and bring everyone to submit to Your service 🙏.

*THE SUPREMACY OF GOD OVER EVERY IDOL*

*TEXT:* 1 SAMUEL 5:1–5

1. And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.
2. When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
3. And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
4. And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.
5. Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

*Timeless Truth*
_Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen._ (1 John 5:21)

*INTRODUCTION*

In 1938, archaeologists uncovered the remains of ancient idols buried beneath ruined temples in the Middle East. These once-revered statues, worshiped by thousands, now lay broken and forgotten under the dust of history. What people once trusted as powerful gods proved powerless to save even themselves.
Human history repeatedly demonstrates the emptiness of idols and false securities. Wealth, power, status, and man-made systems eventually fail. Only the true God remains sovereign forever. In our text today, the Philistines captured the Ark of God and proudly placed it in the temple of their god Dagon, believing their deity had triumphed over Israel’s God. However, overnight, the Lord demonstrated His unmatched supremacy. *“For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.”* (Psalm 96:5)
Dagon fell because no idol can stand before the living God.
The question is: Is God alone enthroned in our hearts, or are there idols still standing beside Him? This lesson reminds us that no rival can stand before the living God. God will not share His throne with idols. He alone deserves worship, trust, and obedience. The good news is that God does not merely destroy idols—He invites us into a relationship with Himself. When we surrender fully to Him, we discover the security, peace, and victory that idols can never provide.

*1. The Presumption of False Confidence*

a. The Philistines believed capturing the Ark meant they had defeated Israel’s God. They mistook temporary success for ultimate triumph.
*“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”* (Proverbs 16:18)
b. They placed the Ark beside Dagon, attempting to combine worship of the true God with false worship.
c. The Philistines treated God’s presence like a trophy instead of recognizing His holiness and sovereignty. Many people today place confidence in achievements, possessions, or traditions instead of fully trusting God.

*Questions*
(i) Am I placing my confidence in temporary successes rather than in God?

(ii) Are there modern “idols” competing for first place in my heart?

*2. The Power of God’s Presence*

a. The following morning, Dagon had fallen face down before the Ark. False gods cannot stand before the true God. The Philistines had to set Dagon back in place. A god that needs human assistance is no god at all.
b. The second fall was worse—the head and hands of Dagon were broken off, symbolizing defeat and helplessness. God will not share His glory with idols. Every false foundation eventually, collapses before His power.

*Questions*
Have I allowed anything to take God’s rightful place in my life? Do I truly believe that God is greater than every challenge or false security?

*3. The Purity of God’s Worship*

a. The priests of Dagon altered their behavior because of what happened. God’s power demanded acknowledgment. The incident produced fear and caution among the Philistines. God’s holiness must never be treated lightly.
b. God desires wholehearted devotion, not divided loyalty between Him and idols. True worship requires surrender, reverence, and exclusive devotion to God.

*Questions*
(i) Is my worship sincere and centered fully on God?
(ii) Do my daily choices reflect wholehearted devotion to God?

*Prayer Points*

1. Lord, reveal and remove every idol competing for my devotion.🙏
2. Father, help me place my confidence fully in You and not in temporary things.🙏
3. Lord, teach me to worship You with sincerity, holiness, and wholehearted devotion.🙏
4. Heavenly Father, let Your power reign over every stronghold and challenge in life.🙏

*SPIRITUAL UNDERTONE OF SOME NATURAL DISASTERS*

*TEXT:* HAGGAI 1:8-11.

8.Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.
9 Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

*Timeless Truth:* _"Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house"_ (Haggai 1:9).

*INTRODUCTION*

Science has brought multiple blessings to humanity and will continue to be. However, Science has its limitations. For example, Science teaches that every occurrence, either natural or supposedly unnatural, must be explained through empirical research.
Empirical research is a scientific approach that relies on real-world, observable evidence rather than theory, intuition, or belief. However, there are many occurances in life that are purely spiritual with no satisfactory scientific explanation or solution. The text is a case of natural disasters, unproductive endeavours, drought and inflation which God revealed as having spiritual undertones. For such experiences, the temptation of the modern world is to look up to science for solutions, but in actual fact, the solution is with God and nobody else. In such cases, the wise will take out definite time to seek the face of God.

*1. Divine Pleasure through Obedience*

a. The Jews returnee from captivity started on a good note. They wanted to appreciate God and worship Him, having delivered them from Babylonian captivity and brought them back to their native land. They decided to build Him a temple of worship since the temple of Solomon had been destroyed at that time. The altar of prayer and worship of God must be the priority of every one that desires to please God. Solomon did the same when he was made king. He built an elaborate altar at Gibeon where He met God and God blessed him specially. The altar is the place of fellowship with God. When the altar of a man is strong, the lines will always fall onto the person in pleasant places. In fact, no battle of life would be able to conquer such a person. That was the experience of the returnee. Unfortunately, along the line, they withdrew from building the temple as a result of challenges. God did not excuse them. As a result some negative experiences started happening to them. What was the remedy that God gave them? Go back to the altar of obedience to God. *"Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house"*. This obedience was the condition for God having pleasure in them. *"And I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD"*.
b. It is true that God loves the world to the point of releasing His only begotten Son for our atonement. However, the love of God can only be earned through obedience to God. When there is no obedience to the Word of God, the manifestation of the love of God will be caught in limbo.
*"If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him"* (John 14:23). What can you understand from the reciprocal love of God as shown above? Profession of love for God is only acceptable to God when it is backed up with obedience to the totality of the Word of God. This special (not general) love of God will then be reciprocated or earned by the love and favour of God. So we can conclude that the degree of our obedience to the Word of God shows the degree of our love for God and this consequently determines how God is happy and glorified through us.

*Question*

Do you go the extra mile in order to obey God, in every area, thereby giving Him glory due to His name?

*2. Deprivation and Poverty through Opportunism*

a. What is the cause of national poverty and inflation? What is the course of the global economic recession? Why are believers suffering in abject poverty though their God is the Owner of the universe. Many answers will always resonate depending on the understanding and the perception of the person answering. Some will call it a natural disaster. Some will reason that it is because of lack of commitment to Agriculture. God revealed that behind the natural is the spiritual. The invisible controls the visible whether people accept it or not. The revelation of the spiritual causes of calamities is always precious and a favour to man because the solution is easy to give once the cause is revealed. So, Science will go far to explain causes, but not the cause behind the causes. God revealed to them the problem. *"Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it"*. This speaks about low yields, negative balance of sheets, inability to recoup investments and mysterious losses. *"Why? saith the LORD of hosts"*. Happy are those that would sincerely ask God for a revelation of hostile and mysterious life experiences and the solution. God is always willing to reveal the purpose of negative experiences that go contrary to His Word and promises. There was a time the whole Israel suffered famine and drought for three years consecutively in 2 Samuel 21:1-10. It took divine revelation before David could know that it was the sins of his predecessor Saul that caused it. The famine would have institutionalized itself and become the new normal were it not for divine revelation.
b. Many people suffer generational poverty, sicknesses, vain struggles to rise up in life, living a life of average, etc. as a result of the evils of the past which they may not even know anything about. Genuine Salvation should cancel them and if they still persist, there is a need for revelation of the cause and the divine solution. In the case of Israel in the text, the cause and the solution were also given. *"Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house"*. God saw them as opportunists who enjoyed the blessings of God, but were not committed to showing appreciation to God in return. The case is a case of making consecration to God and going back on that consecration. The same principle applies to selfish saints who receive free, but costly salvation of Christ, but are not ready to serve Jesus Christ with all their lives. They will have restricted and limited blessings from God. If this can happen to a green tree what of the dry tree where a sinner refuses to repent and accept the forgiveness of God. The Bible says ,*"Woe unto them"*.

*Question*

Are you an opportunist who receives blessings from God, but is not willing to serve God.

*3. Drought Punishment through Obstruction*

In that case, God punished them with what would immediately, catch their attention and draw them back to God. *"Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit"*. Today, there may be irrigation, but God still has other punitive ways He uses to catch the attention of His rebellious people.
*"And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn...."* Globally, about 8.2% of the world's population (over 673 million people) suffers from chronic hunger, while roughly 2.8 billion people cannot afford a healthy diet. Climate change, wars and some other factors may be responsible. What causes climate change? Man. What made man careless about the climate? Believers should not take anything for granted. Whatever they are experiencing must be juxtaposed with the promises of God. Whenever their experiences contradict what God planned and promised for His children, wisdom will demand that the believer seek the face of God and deal with the problem.

*Question*

Are you experiencing things contrary to what God promised believers?

*Prayer Points*

1.Ask for forgiveness which ever area you might have been disobedient or unfaithful to your consecrations 🙏.
2.Come to the altar afresh and re-consecrate your life to God and His service. Ask God to strengthen your altar of prayer and devotion 🙏.
3.Ask God to search your heart and family line and reveal any evil of the past which you may not know, but is having a toll on your life 🙏.
4.Pray for mercy and repentance for all brethren and grace to be committed to full obedience to God's Word and will 🙏.

*TEXT:* ZEPHANIAH 2:7-15.

7 And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.
8 I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border.
9 Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as S***m, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.
10 This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.
11 The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen.
12 Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword.
13 And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness.
14 And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds; for he shall uncover the cedar work.
15 This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.

*Timeless Truth:*_"Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them"_ (Isaiah 34:16).

*INTRODUCTION*

The narratives of the Old Testament are not just meant for the awareness of historical events that happened then. All of them, without exceptions, are to teach some definite spiritual lessons. *"Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come"* (1 Corinthians 10:11). One of the things that could be noticed in the narratives by the observant is God's faithfulness to His promises. The text is about God's judgments to some nations. Within it is a salient testimony that should challenge believers to seek for the promises of God and demand the fulfilment in their lives.
*"Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant"* (1 Kings 8:56).

*1. The Possessing the Rights of the Rebellious*

a. God promised to seize the heritage of the rebellious Philistines and give them to Judah. *"And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon"*. Judah would receive a divine visitation and the table would turn around against their adversaries. *"For the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity"*.
b. When was this kind of beautiful experience promised Judah? There is a promise that God gave their forefathers which says *"thy seed shall possess the gates of his enemies"*. It appears primarily in Genesis 22:17, where God blessed Abraham, and Genesis 24:60, where Rebecca’s family blessed her before she departed. In ancient times, the gates of a city were highly fortified and were the centre of power and authority so that the enemy would not be able to pe*****te. To possess the gate of the enemies is a promise of final triumph over all the adversaries. These promises covered all those having the faith of Abraham. It appeared inconsequential, but God watches over His Word and promises to make sure none of it fails or falters. Jesus also affirmed, *"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled"* (Matthew 5:18). In the text, we see the promise for Judah which is a repetition of God's promise to Abraham. This promise in the text was repeated during the reign of Josiah when there was some revival of righteousness. The fulfilment became real when they were on the path of righteousness. Any saint that is living a righteous life should confidently seek the promises of God, no matter how hidden they may be. The promise was really fulfilled on Judah even at a time Judah could have forgotten that such a promise was given to Abraham.

*Question*

Do you have confidence in the promises of God? Which of them are you claiming by faith?

*2. Punished for Reproaching the Righteous*

a. The problem with Moab and Ammon was that they boastfully reproached the people of God. *"Whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border"*. God's people appeared to be powerless and helpless and as a result, the enemy nations boasted and cast aspersions on Judah. They were severely punished as a result of proudly reproaching the people of God. *"Surely Moab shall be as S***m, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah"*. The promise continued. *"The residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them"*. The reason for this terrible judgment was as a result of their proud and boastful attitude towards the people of God. *"This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts"*.
b. God closely operates according to His Word. Where in the Bible is it revealed that if God's children are reproached, God will rise to the help of His children, and disgrace, disappoint and defeat the adversaries? *"After the glory hath He sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you, toucheth the apple of his eye"* (Zechariah 2:8). How do you react when someone wickedly attempts to touch or injure the apple of your eye? You don't take it easy with the person. You immediately, and at times violently remove the hand of the person. This is the same thing that God does to the wicked adversaries of His children who are trying to violate their security by force.

*Question*

Seek and state other promises that show that when the adversaries proudly boast or reproach His children, He will rise to their aid.
Hint: What happened to Pharaoh when he reproached Israel and her God by saying *"who is that God?"* What happened to Haman when he despised the Jews and even planned to ridicule them with death? Think of more cases how a ridicule against God's children is taken as a ridicule against God.

*3. Pride Rewarded with Ruins*

a. Pride is a natural manifestation of the unregenerated. It was pride that ruined Satan and turned him from glory to grass. The promise of God is always valid even when men may forget it. *"Whosoever exalt himself shall be abased"* (Luke 14:11). The proud, whether nations, communities or individuals would be brought low. *"The scripture cannot be broken"*. *"This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand"*. Pride as a result of beauty, possessions, education, race, intelligence etc. must soon be brought low no matter how delayed if there is no repentance.

*Question*

Give examples in the Scriptures of the proud that were humiliated and fallen.

*Prayer Points*

1.Praise God that you are the apple of God's eyes and ask for grace to live in that consciousness 🙏.
2.Let the Holy Spirit open my eyes and guide me to discover promises of God that I need to claim 🙏.
3.Teach me to always put my trust in Your Word and promises 🙏.
4.Cleanse me from all forms of pride and boastings🙏.
