Minister of Awqaf Receives the M***i of Belarus

As part of the Libyan government’s commitment to strengthening its ties with Islamic institutions around the world, H.E. Mr. Atef Abdulwahid Al-Abidi, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs of the Libyan government, received the M***i of the Islamic Association in Belarus, Sheikh Abubakr Shabanovich, and his deputy Sheikh Hasanvich Rustam. The meeting took place at the venue of the Libya International Holy Qur’an Award, in the presence of a member of the Supreme Fatwa Committee, Sheikh Ibrahim F***j Bel-Ashhar, as well as:
Mr. Hamad Al-Buseifi, Director of the International Cooperation Office at the Ministry.
Mr. Mohamed Al-Kargali, Director of the Public Relations Office.
The Minister welcomed the delegation, underscoring the importance of the ties between the two countries and describing the visit as an important step toward a new phase of joint cooperation. For his part, the M***i expressed his gratitude to Libya for the warm reception, noting that Muslims in Belarus—who make up about 1% of the population—enjoy a history spanning more than six centuries and hold a respected position within Belarusian society.
The Minister reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to the principles of moderation and balance, announcing the Ministry’s readiness to send imams and Qur’an teachers to Belarus and to open Libyan educational institutions to Belarusian students wishing to study Islamic sciences.
Both sides agreed that this visit marks the beginning of a renewed path of cooperation. During the meeting, the M***i presented a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Libyan Ministry of Awqaf and the Religious Authority of Muslims in the Republic of Belarus, opening new horizons for fruitful collaboration between the two countries.
