Thought: Hebrews 11:3; “BY FAITH”

Today we read the well known Hebrews 11, it starts, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction (evidence) of things not seen.” This is the vital lesson we must take to heart in reading this chapter – that having faith is having a state of mind that must cause us to lead different lives, different priorities – to have different aims. We live our lives in service to our Saviour – accomplishing things in his service. Read the chapter, noticing how often the words “By faith” occur. “By faith Noah" …"by faith Abraham"… "by faith Sarah.”
Our faith is not just something we talk about – or listen to others talking about. We read today of many examples of men and women of faith, highlighting in many cases some particular deed that proved the nature of their faith. It is most valuable to look on into the first 2 verses of tomorrow’s chapter 12, it starts “Therefore” – therefore we should put the chapter break after verse 2.
“Therefore since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses_ (all those examples of men and women of faith in Hebrews 11), let us also lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2).
We must each search our hearts as to how effectively we are living our lives so that he sees that our faith has developed real strength, that we have acquired a real sense of teamwork with our Saviour and our God. That our lives demonstrate that we are “working together with him” [2 Corinthians 6:1].
May we all be able to look back on our lives, on our journey in developing greater and greater faith to see how we have been “made strong out of weakness” [Hebrews11:34] because we have developed a real “conviction of things not seen” and “we are not of those who shrink back, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls” [Hebrews 10:39]

Thought: Hebrews 9:28;
“TO SAVE THOSE WHO EAGERLY WAIT FOR HIM ”

Let us link up the closing words of our reading in Hebrews (ch.9) “Christ … will appear a second time to save those who are eagerly waiting for him” with the words God gave to Isaiah, in today’s chapter 25, which we referred to yesterday. This describes the time when God “will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth.” It will be said on that day, ‘Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation” [Isaiah 25:8,9].

How eagerly are we waiting? Is the world around us full of ways of living that attract us, things that largely or fully occupy our minds? Yes, we have to live in the world and earn our living, but are we keenly interested in the vision God’s word provides for us that goes far beyond the present materialistic way of thinking and doing?

We are forced to admit that this computer communication age, which is very helpful in many ways, is also very distracting – do we need to allow it to be totally distracting? The more our minds feed on God’s word the more we will be attracted to that word. In that coming day, the LORD tells us through Isaiah, the redeemed will say, “O LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. Therefore strong peoples will glorify you; cities of ruthless nations will fear you” [Isaiah 25:1,3].

At that time those who have been “eagerly waiting” and showing this by their priorities in life will “be glad and rejoice.” Peter in his 1st epistle, which we will soon read, expresses this powerfully, “Though you do not now see him, you believe him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and full of glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith_ …” [1 Peter 1:8,9]. Imagine the joy? Imagine the glory?

Finally, note the point Paul made earlier in Hebrews 9! “How much more will the blood of Christ who_ … offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God” [Hebrews 9:14]. If we do not sense our progress in that purifying and, as a result, serving, then we have to ask ourselves, ‘Do I genuinely belong to Christ?’ [bibletruthandprophecy.com]

Rest Worth Fighting For

Israel stood with Joshua on the border of the Promised Land, ready to enter the place God had prepared - a land flowing with milk and honey, a place of rest after years of wandering. Yet before they could fully enjoy that rest, enemies needed to be conquered. Jericho fell miraculously through a march, a trumpet blast, and a shout. Victory came not through human strength, but through trust and obedience. Then came Ai. Israel assumed it would be easy, sent only a few men, and suffered a crushing defeat. What a picture this is of our own spiritual journey. Jesus, our greater Joshua, has come to lead us into God's promised rest, saving us completely through His love and grace. Yet enemies still remain within us - anger, gossip, envy, greed, unforgiveness, pride. So often we try to conquer these sins in our own strength, only to fail again and again. But victory is never found in self-effort. Christ Himself is the conqueror. As we daily trust Him, surrender to Him, and allow His Spirit to work within us, He transforms our hearts and leads us deeper into the peace and rest of God. "Therefore, since the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it." (Hebrews 4:1). (Nicky B). Open Bible - bit.ly/Heb4v1

Is God a Trinity?

Understanding the Relationship Between God and Jesus
1. What is the relationship between God and Jesus?
Many verses in the Bible clearly explain the relationship between God and Jesus. The Bible teaches that Jesus is the Son of God, and that God is the Father of Jesus Christ.
This is what the angel told Mary:
“You will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest Luke 1:31–32
At the baptism of Jesus, a voice from heaven said:
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”Matthew 3:17
Just as a normal father is not the same person as his son, God and Jesus are distinct from one another.
Jesus is described as the image of his Father, reflecting God’s character to mankind:
“Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person…”
Hebrews 1:3
When you look into a mirror, you see an image or reflection, but the reflection is not the actual person. In the same way, Jesus reflected God’s character, but he was not God Himself.
A father exists before his son. God has always existed, but Jesus, as God’s Son, was brought into existence according to God’s plan. Peter says:
“He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.”
1 Peter 1:20
Jesus was born because God loved the world:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…”
John 3:16
God gave His Son. The words are simple and clear.
Jesus often referred to God as his Father. He said:
“My Father is greater than I.
John 14:28
If the Father is greater than Jesus, then they are not the same being.
Speaking about the end of the age, Jesus said:
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the Son, but only the Father.”
Mark 13:32
If the Father knows something that the Son does not know, this again shows they are distinct.
After his resurrection, Jesus said:
“I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.”
John 20:17
The Apostle Paul also wrote:
“The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ…”
2 Corinthians 11:31
Paul understood the relationship clearly:
“The head of Christ is God.”
1 Corinthians 11:3
Even after Jesus was raised and glorified, God remained greater than him.
Paul also wrote:
“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
1 Timothy 2:5
Jesus is called a man and mediator between God and mankind. The Bible never uses the term “God the Son.”
John wrote:
“Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.”
1 John 4:15
The Bible consistently teaches that Jesus is the Son of God.
2. What is Jesus called in the Gospels?
Jesus is often called:
Christ
Lord
Teacher
He is also called:
a. Son of Man (81 times)
b. Son of God (27 times)
c. Son of David (17 times)
d. Beloved Son (8 times)
Jesus is called the Son of Man because he was born of a human mother. He is called the Son of God because God was his Father. He is called the Son of David because he descended from King David and will one day reign on David’s throne.
“The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.”
Luke 1:32–33
He is called the Beloved Son because he was obedient to God.
In all these references, Jesus is described as the Son, distinct from God the Father.
3. Why cannot Jesus be God?
Although God and Jesus are united in purpose, their roles are different.
God gave Adam a choice, and Adam sinned through disobedience. Because of sin, humanity became mortal. To bring salvation, a sinless man was needed to overcome sin and restore mankind.
That man is Jesus Christ.
“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”
1 Corinthians 15:20–23
God Himself could not die, because He is immortal and cannot be tempted by evil.
“God cannot be tempted by evil.”
James 1:13
Jesus, however, was mortal and could be tempted:
“He Himself has suffered, being tempted.”
Hebrews 2:18
“He was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
Hebrews 4:15
God sent His Son to save the world:
“God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
John 3:17
Jesus died for us:
“While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
God cannot die, but Jesus did. Through his sacrifice, salvation became possible.
4. Who or what is the Holy Spirit?
The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is the power of God, not a separate person.
The angel said to Mary:
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you.”
Luke 1:35
God used His holy power to bring about the birth of Jesus, His Son.
5. What will be the relationship between God and Jesus in the future?
Jesus is now immortal, yet his role remains different from that of God.
Soon, God will send Jesus back to the earth to establish His Kingdom.
“Behold, your King is coming to you…”
Zechariah 9:9
“When the Son of Man comes in His glory…”
Matthew 25:31
Jesus will reign as King until he hands the Kingdom back to God.
Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father…1 Corinthians 15:24–28
Even then, Jesus, as God’s immortal Son, will remain subject to the Father, so that “God may be all in all.”
We too can have a place in God’s Kingdom if we:
A. Believe God’s Word and keep His commandments
B. Treasure God’s gift of His only begotten Son
C. Value the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who died for us
Jesus gives the final words:
“This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.John 17:3

Seeking God
Many of us fall into a treadmill rhythm of life - days filled with work, meals, household tasks, a little television, and then bed, the same pattern repeating week after week, year after year. Recently, we had the privilege of hiking one of the most remote stretches of coastline in Southern Africa. On the fourth evening, we gathered on a golden beach to watch the sunset. More than thirty dolphins surfed the waves before us, the sky blazed with colour, and loved ones stood beside me. In that moment I found myself thinking, "This feels like a glimpse of God's Kingdom." That experience did not happen by accident - we had to plan the journey and step into it. How often do we intentionally seek out the beauty God has placed around us? A quiet beach, a mountain path, a river, or a peaceful park can draw our hearts to worship as we encounter His handiwork. Genesis 1:31 tells us, "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good." These moments give us a foretaste of the glorious future awaiting God's children. As 1 Corinthians 2:9 reminds us, God has prepared wonders beyond anything we can imagine. So don't simply live a treadmill life - seek God's beauty and let it awaken your longing for the Kingdom to come. (Nicky B). Open Bible - bit.ly/gen1v31, bit.ly/1Co2v9

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

*Peace Beyond the Storm*
Recently we stayed at a timeshare perched on huge granite boulders beside the ocean. When we arrived, the sea was calm as a lake - the sunset glittered across the water, and later the moon cast its gentle light on the surface. Everything felt still and tranquil. Yet only a day later the scene transformed entirely. The ocean turned wild and stormy, foamy waves crashing mercilessly against the granite rocks while strong currents roared through the bay. Watching it, I thought how often our lives feel the same. Without God's presence, life can become turbulent, uncertain, and frightening. Trials rise suddenly like storms, and fears crash heavily against our hearts. Yet God does not leave us alone in the storm. In the middle of life's crashing waves, He offers a peace this world cannot give - one that calms the restless soul and steadies the heart even when circumstances remain uncertain. As Scripture says, "The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7) The waves outside us may still rage, but deep within there can be rest, because Christ Himself says: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27). (Nicky B). Open Bible - bit.ly/phi4v7, bit.ly/joh14v27

Joshua 7 / Isaiah 11 / 2 Thessalonians 3

Every morning we watch the darkness give way to light. Another day is born. Another step closer to THAT glorious morning when Jesus Christ will return — “the Sun of righteousness” arising with healing in his wings.

Isaiah was given a breathtaking glimpse of that coming age:

“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
the calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
and a little child shall lead them…
They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,
for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.”
(Isaiah 11:6,9)

What a world that will be!

For thousands of years humanity has staggered beneath the rule of flawed leaders — kings, presidents, rulers and governments marked by selfishness, greed, corruption, weakness and pride. Promises are broken. Justice is twisted. The poor suffer while the powerful enrich themselves. Violence fills the earth and fear grips the hearts of men.

But Jesus will not rule like the rulers of this world.

When Jesus sits upon David’s throne, he will reign in perfect wisdom, perfect righteousness and perfect understanding. Every judgment will be just. Every word will be true. He will defend the weak, lift up the humble and establish peace throughout the earth. His kingdom will not be built upon lies, political power or military force — but upon the unshakable righteousness of God.

And unlike every ruler before him, Jesus will never die.

No funeral procession will ever mark the end of his reign. No successor will ever replace him. No enemy will overthrow him. His kingdom will endure forever and ever. And the peace of his kingdom will touch everything.

Not only nations and peoples — but even the animal creation itself. The fear, violence and bloodshed that fills the natural world today will be removed. Children will play safely in a world healed by the presence of its rightful King.

What a hope we have before us.

But the question that matters most is NOT whether Jesus will one day be King of the earth. The question is:
Is he your King now?

Do we listen for his voice now?
Do we treasure his words now?
Do we open the door of our hearts to him now?
Do we submit our lives to his authority now?

Because every sunrise is one day closer to his return.

Today is a new day.
A new opportunity.
A new call from God.
Do not harden your heart.
Open the door of your heart
to Jesus now —
while there is still time.
