Pope Francis's encyclical on ecology, Laudato Si, says that climate change is real and mainly “a result of human activity.”

Since the fire erupted at Tšosane Dumping Site on Sunday morning, smoke continues to billow from the site, posing serious health risks to the surrounding community. The ongoing smoke emissions contain harmful gases, including carbon dioxide, which studies—such as those conducted by the National University of Lesotho—highlight as dangerous when inhaled in high concentrations.

We call on authorities to prioritize the health and safety of the community by acting swiftly to address this crisis. The community’s health should not be compromised any further, and urgent measures are needed to close and properly manage the dumpsite.

Since the early hours of this morning, a fire has been raging at the Tšosane Dumping Site, once again exposing the surrounding community to **toxic smoke, pollution, and immediate health dangers**.

This is exactly why CCJP, together with the Tšosane community, has been relentlessly advocating for the Closure, Rehabilitation, and Relocation of this hazardous Dump Site.

💔 Children are breathing in toxic air.
💔 Homes are filled with smoke.
💔 The environment is being destroyed before our eyes.

This is not just a fire — it is a burning reminder of the urgencyof our call. Authorities must act now to protect the people of Tšosane and ensure this never happens again.

We continue to stand with the community and demand:
✅ Long-term relocation and rehabilitation of the site
✅ Sustainable waste management solutions

🛑 Enough is enough.

CCJP today on the 27 March 2024 joined the congregants of Our Lady of Victory Cathdral for chrism mass.

This mass marked a significance event in the Catholic tradition namely: the blessing and consecration of oils (Oleum Infirmorum (OI), Oleum Sanctum (OS), Sanctum Chrisma (SC).

The Archbishop Gerad Lerotholi predicated his homily on the importance of Priesthood as anointed servant of God. He further stressed that the priest must bless everyone and everywhere disregard of their condition or background. He encouraged his priests to be persona Christi that is being another christ on earth emulating the qualities of Christ.

In this mass the priests renew their priestly promises and recommit themselves to mission of the Church. CCJP says happy priests to all priests.
