MPC Pressures President Boakai to Release LDEA Investigation Report
The opposition Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) has called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to make public the findings of an investigation into the conduct of suspended officials of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA).
The MPC alleges that the report is being manipulated to benefit the suspended Director of the LDEA, Col. Abraham Kromah. Last month, President Boakai suspended Col. Kromah, along with Deputy Director General for Administration Gbawou Kowou and Deputy Director General for Operations Hassan Fadiga, following a physical altercation at the LDEA headquarters on June 4, 2024.
The suspended officials have been without pay pending the outcome of the investigation. According to a release by MPC Chairman Oneal Passawe on July 22, 2024, the MPC claims to have intelligence that the investigation report has been submitted to President Boakai and contains unfavorable findings for Col. Kromah.
"Our intel has revealed that Mr. AB Kromah is allegedly using his influence and closeness to the Unity Party to arm-twist the report in his favor because he is a close confidant to Madam Mamaka Bility, Minister of State Without Portfolio, and other influential government officials around the presidency," the MPC stated.
The opposition party has challenged the presidency to release the report to the public and implement its recommendations. The MPC urged Liberians to join their cause for democracy and committed to continuing their advocacy against drug proliferation and its impact on the youth of Liberia.
"The MPC will not rest in holding the feet of this deceitful government to the fire until the right thing is done, most especially at the LDEA," the release concluded.
