Liberia’s first participation in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers was the 1982 edition. From 1930 to 1962, Liberia wasn’t a FIFA member.
The Lone Star withdrew from the 1966 qualifiers and didn’t enter the qualifiers from 1970 to 1978. The Lone Star participated in all qualifiers from the 1982 edition except the 1994 qualifiers when they withdrew during the qualification.
Since their first appearance in the 1982 edition, Liberia has played 72 games. They won 21, drew 13 and lost 38 of the 72 games. Liberia has 54 goals in the 72 games and conceded 98.
The most wins Liberia has recorded in a single qualifying competition was six wins. The Lone Star recorded six wins in 10 games played in the 2002 qualifiers.
Thrice, Liberia participated in the competition without securing a win.
The first was the 1982 qualifiers, losing 1-0 on aggregate to Guinea in the first round.
The second was the 1986 qualifiers when they lost 4-0 on aggregate to Nigeria.
The third was the 2010 qualifiers when the Lone Star lost three and drew three of its six group games.
