HR professionals from both the public and private sectors came together in a true spirit of fraternity, alongside HR consultancy firms and associate members from non-HR backgrounds, to connect, exchange ideas, and strengthen professional bonds. The diversity in the room reflected the broad reach and growing relevance of the HR profession across Liberia’s workforce.

The Association of Liberia Human Resource Professionals (ALHRP) is open to all HR practitioners working in Liberia, regardless of sector. Our shared commitment is to set and uphold professional standards in workplaces, promote ethical and effective people management, and create a strong platform for members to continuously learn from one another.

Through training, research, professional dialogue, and mentorship, ALHRP works to build capacity, influence best practices, and champion the voice of people management and workforce development issues in Liberia. As a professional fraternity, we stand not only for careers, but for impact, ensuring that human capital remains central to organizational excellence, decent work, and national development.

ALHRP is more than an association. It is a community of professionals united by purpose, standards, and a shared responsibility to elevate the HR profession in Liberia.

*Dear Esteemed Members of the Association of Liberia Human Resource Professionals (ALHRP),*

Warm greetings to you all.

Since our establishment in 2013, ALHRP has remained the officially recognized professional body championing the growth, visibility, and credibility of Human Resource practice in Liberia. Together, we have built a community of professionals committed to excellence, ethics, continuous development, and national advocacy for HR as an essential discipline.

*Recently* , we became aware that some of our members have received invitations from *Mr. Ebenezer Jackson Somah to join a newly formed network called the Strategic Human Resource Professionals of Liberia (SHRP Liberia).*

We wish to clarify the following in the spirit of transparency and professionalism:

*SHRP Liberia is not affiliated with ALHRP,* nor is it supported, endorsed, or recognized as a subsidiary or extension of our Association.

*ALHRP* has not sanctioned any membership outreach or communication through this group.

*Members remain free to join any additional professional platform* they believe adds v *alue, provided such participation does not conflict with their obligations as ALHRP members under our code of conduct, policies, and professional standards.*

For the sake of clarity and to avoid misinformation, we also note that:

*Mr. Ebenezer Jackson Somah* has benefited from ALHRP’s moral and financial support, including a scholarship opportunity and sponsorship of his travel to Ghana for the second Ghana HR Conference.

Such support was extended in good faith, as ALHRP remains committed to empowering emerging HR professionals and building capacity within the field.

While we wish him and other members well in their independent professional initiatives, it is important for our members to know that this new platform does not represent *ALHRP and is not part of our strategic direction or national advocacy efforts.*

As the legally established and nationally representative HR body in Liberia, ALHRP continues to focus on:

👉🏻Advancing HR legislation and recognition in Liberia;

👉🏻Strengthening professional standards and ethics;

👉🏻Developing capacity and promoting continuous learning;

👉🏻Building a unified, credible, and respected HR community across sectors.

We encourage all members to remain committed to our collective vision and to exercise sound judgment when engaging with external professional groups.

*Should you require clarification or wish to discuss this further, our leadership remains open and available.*

Thank you for your continued trust, dedication, and commitment to ALHRP and to the advancement of our profession. **Executive Leadership*

Good Morning.

Yesterday we all saw the troubling news of our colleague Mr. J. Abraham Jimmy being arrested simply for doing what every HR professional is called to do: standing for truth, fairness, and compliance. Last night I reached out to colleagues at AFCONS a company I once served to understand the matter in detail.

What I learned was deeply concerning. Mr. Jimmy inherited a case at the Labor Office where employees accused management of failing to pay their 4% social security contributions. The Commissioners ruled that the company should return the 4% directly in cash to the 291 employees. Yet when Jimmy reviewed the evidence, the facts told a different story. Receipts from NASSCORP and payroll records confirmed that the company was fully compliant and that all contributions had been remitted as required.

As a professional, Jimmy did what we are duty bound to do. He respectfully cited the NASSCORP Act, which makes clear that contributions are paid to the national authority and not directly to employees. For taking a principled stand grounded in law and evidence, he was accused of “inciting the company against the government” and arrested.

This incident is not just about one person. It is about the growing risks HR professionals face when we stand firm on the side of truth in a system where some officials may be ill informed or guided by other motives. It is about the burden we carry as custodians of compliance, fairness, and justice in the workplace. And it is about the courage it takes to defend the integrity of our profession even when it comes at personal cost.

We must be clear: HR is not about choosing sides. HR is about ensuring that the law is applied correctly, that employees’ rights are protected, and that employers meet their obligations. When we defend compliance with the Decent Work Act, the NASSCORP Act, or any other labor law, we are not inciting—we are upholding the very foundation of a just and fair labor system.

Let us take inspiration from Jimmy’s courage. His experience reminds us that our work is not always easy, but it is necessary. It calls on us to remain vigilant, to document diligently, to advocate firmly, and to carry ourselves with the highest professionalism. And above all, it reminds us to stand together—because when one HR professional is targeted for doing the right thing, the integrity of our entire profession is under attack.

We will remain in touch with Jimmy to ascertain how he wishes to handle this matter and how best we can support him. In addition, our Government and Legal Team will visit the Ministry of Labour to engage with the relevant authorities on this issue. This is not just about defending one professional—it is about defending the credibility of our profession as a whole.

We stand in solidarity with Mr. Jimmy. And we recommit ourselves to building a labor system where truth, fairness, and compliance are not punished but celebrated
