HOLY WEEK:

My beloved in Jesus Christ,

To help us focus on this Holy Week, I am herewith giving the scriptural readings from today, Holy Tuesday, to Holy Saturday (April 7-10, 2020):

Holy Tuesday: Isaiah 49:1_6; Psalm 71:1_12 (BCP, p. 683); 1 Corinthians: 1:18_31; & John 12:37_38, 42_50.

Holy Wednesday: Isaiah 50:4_9a; Psalm 69:7_15, 22_23 (BCP, p. 679); Hebrews 9:11_15, 24_28; & John 13:21_35

Maundy Thursday: Exodus 12:1_14a; Psalm 78:14_20, 23_25 (BCP, p. 696); 1 Corinthians 11:23_32; & John 13:1_15.

Good Friday: Isaiah 52:13_53:12; Psalm 40:1_14 (BCP, p.640) ; Hebrews 10:1_25; & John 19:1_37.

Holy Saturday: Job 14:1-14; Psalm 130 (BCP, p. 784); 1 Peter 4:1-8; & Matthew 27:57-66

Let us read and reflect on the events described in these readings, where possible with the entire household and discuss them. Let us pray for our world that is currently under attack by this deadly virus, Corona, for those who have fallen ill, the bereaved, all medical personnel and those who assist them do their work, all decision-makers, and for our communities and ourselves, for grace, wisdom, protection, and for strength to do whatever little we can to help in the situation one way or the other.

The Collects for each day are found on pages 220-221 of the Book of Common Prayer (BCP).

Be assured of my prayers.

I don't know who wrote this, but it's beautiful..

"We fell asleep in one world, and woke up in another.

Suddenly Disney is out of magic,
Paris is no longer romantic,
New York doesn't stand up anymore,
the Chinese wall is no longer a fortress, and Mecca is empty.

Hugs & kisses suddenly become weapons, and not visiting parents & friends becomes an act of love.

Suddenly you realise that power, beauty & money are worthless, and can't get you the oxygen you're fighting for.

The world continues its life and it is beautiful. It only puts humans in cages."

I think it's sending us a message:

"You are not necessary. The air, earth, water and sky without you are fine. When you come back, remember that you are my guests. Not my masters."

Dear Parishioners,

“For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7). “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 6:5-6). I bring to our attention these two Bible verses in order to help us cope with the restrictions imposed on us resulting from the COVID 19.

The Bible makes it clear that fear is not a portion of Christians. Fear has torment or punishment. It paralyzes and confuses. Rather the Bible enjoins trust in and submission to God who is in full control off all situations. He is adequate to meet all of our needs and confront all of us fears. Let us stay safe, wash our hands frequently and follow other preventive measures.

Let pray a lot, reflect a lot about life and our purpose on this earth, and evaluate how we have been using our time and resources. Let us form or renew the habit of regular, consistent reading every day even if only about 30 minutes a day. Let read the Bible and other material to add value to our life and our relationships.” Reading maketh a full man (and woman too)”.

Thank you very much.

Fr. Sellee
