SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
An important notice from the Crescent/Moon Sighting Committee, together with the Fatwa Council, the Body of Imams of the National Muslim Council, and the National Imam Council of Liberia.
**IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE MOST MERCIFUL**
The above-mentioned authorities held their second meeting on Sunday, February 15, 2026, which corresponds to Sha’ban 27, 1447.
After consultation and thorough discussion, the committee concluded the following:
1. Sunday, February 15, 2026, corresponds to Sha’ban 27, 1447.
2. Tuesday, February 17, 2026, corresponds to Sha’ban 29, 1447.
3. Based on this, the authority is calling on Muslims across the Republic of Liberia to look out for the crescent 🌙 of Ramadan on the evening of Tuesday.
4. If the crescent is sighted on Tuesday evening, then Wednesday, February 18, 2026, will be declared the first day of Ramadan. However, if the crescent is not seen on Tuesday, Sha’ban will be completed as 30 days on Wednesday.
5. Therefore, Thursday, February 19, 2026, will be observed as the first of Ramadan, Hijri 1447.
In accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH):
“Fast when the new crescent is sighted and break your fast when the new crescent is sighted.”
If the sky is cloudy, then complete Sha’ban to thirty days.
The authority will also take into account reports from neighboring countries, including Saudi Arabia, in the event that the crescent is sighted.
All Imams and local Muslim authorities are kindly requested to promptly inform the head authority once the moon is sighted.
Congratulations to the Muslims of Liberia on the arrival of the Holy Month of Ramadan. We encourage everyone to pray for the President, the government, and the people of Liberia.
