රාගම තේවත්ත ඓතිහාසික බැසිලිකා දේවස්ථානයේ විශේෂ නිරීක්ෂණ චාරිකාවකට එක් වීමි.
රාගම තේවත්ත ප්රදේශයේ පිහිටි, ඉපැරණි කලාත්මක හා වාස්තු විද්යාත්මක වටිනාකමකින් යුත් ඓතිහාසික බැසිලිකා දේවස්ථානයේ කඩිනමින් සිදුකළ යුතු අත්යවශ්ය ප්රතිසංස්කරණයන් පිළිබඳව සොයාබැලීමේ අරමුණ ඇතිව බුද්ධශාසන, ආගමික හා සංස්කෘතික කටයුතු අමාත්ය ආචාර්ය හිනිදුම සුනිල් සෙනෙවි මහතා සමග එක්ව විශේෂ නිරීක්ෂණ චාරිකාවකට ඊයේ දින (20) එක් වීමි.
දෙස් විදෙස් සර්ව ආගමික බැතිමතුන්ගේ නිබඳ ගෞරවයට හා වන්දනාවට ලක්වන පුරා විද්යාත්මක වටිනාකමකින් යුත් පුදබිමක් වන මෙම දේවස්ථානය ක්රි.ව. 1911 දී ආරම්භ කර තිබේ. වර්තමානය වන විට දේවස්ථානයේ විවිධ ස්ථාන අබලන් තත්වයන්ට පත්ව ඇති අතර එම අංග කඩිනමින් ප්රතිසංස්කරණය කළ යුතුව තිබේ.
විශේෂයෙන්ම ගෘහ නිර්මාණ ශිල්පීය වශයෙන් අනන්යතාවක් විදහා දැක්වෙන මෙම දේවස්ථානය සංරක්ෂණය කිරීම ජාතික වගකීමක් ලෙස සලකා කටයුතු කළ යුතුව තිබේ. එබැවින් මෙහි පුරාවිද්යාත්මක සහ කලාත්මක වටිනාකම මතු පරපුර උදෙසා ද සුරැකීම වෙනුවෙන් බුද්ධශාසන, ආගමික හා සංස්කෘතික කටයුතු අමාත්යාංශය ප්රමුඛව ඒ යටතේ ඇති වෙනත් ආයතනයන්හි මුල්ය දායකත්වය යටතේ විධිමත් ප්රතිසංස්කරණ ක්රියාවලියක් කඩිනමින් ආරම්භ කිරීමට මෙහිදී අවධානය යොමු කෙරිණි. ඒ සඳහා පළමු පියවර ලෙස ඉංජිනේරු ශිල්පයේ ප්රවීණතාවක් සහිත රාජ්ය ආයතනයන්හි උපදේශකත්වයෙන් හා නිර්දේශයෙන් යුතුව වාර්තාවක් සකස් කිරීමටත් ඉන් අනතුරුව ඒ ඔස්සේ ඉදිරි කටයුතු සැලසුම් කිරීමටත් යෝජනා කෙරිණි.
මේ අවස්ථාවට දේවස්ථානයේ පරිපාලක පියතුමන් වන ගරු රවින් සඳසිරි පියතුමන්, ගරු අමිල පීරිස් පියතුමා, ජා ඇල ප්රාදේශීය සභාවේ මන්ත්රී කීර්ති චන්ද්ර ප්රනාන්දු මහතා, කලා ශිල්පි නුවන් ජූඩ් මහතා ඇතුළු පිරිසක් එක් විය.
Participated in a special observation tour of the historic Basilica of Our Lady of Lanka in Tewatta, Ragama.
Yesterday (20th), I joined the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, on a special observation tour to examine the urgent and essential renovations required for the historic Basilica in Tewatta, Ragama, a site of immense ancient artistic and architectural value.
This sacred place, which holds great archaeological significance and is consistently revered and visited by devotees of all faiths from both home and abroad, was established in 1911. At present, various sections of the Basilica have fallen into a state of disrepair and require immediate restoration.
Preserving this Basilica, which showcases a unique architectural identity, is a national responsibility. Therefore, with the aim of safeguarding its archaeological and artistic value for future generations, we focused on initiating a formal restoration process, spearheaded by the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, with financial contributions from its affiliated institutions. As a first step, it was proposed to prepare a comprehensive report based on the expert advice and recommendations of state engineering institutions, and to plan further actions accordingly.
The event was attended by the Administrator of the Basilica, Rev. Fr. Ravin Sandasiri, Rev. Fr. Amila Peiris, Ja-Ela Pradeshiya Sabha member Mr. Keerthi Chandra Fernando, artist Mr. Nuwan Jude, and several others.
