St. John the Baptist Church, Mutwal The first Catholic church and parish in Mutwal. Present church building was built in 1816 and the devotion to St. St. John the Baptist. Present Parish Priest Rev.

John the Baptist and the historical statue of St. John the Baptist in Mutwal dates back to 16th century since Portuguese era. John the Baptist is the oldest church in Colombo North. It was built in 1816 at the present location. But the earlier location was somewhere near the Hendala Ferry Road where the Kelani River meets the Sea.
