St'marys Church was established in Mattakkuliya, North Colombo in 1861. We hope that after you look through our website, you will consider becoming a more active part of our growing community of faith. Mary’s Church offers many missionary services for people of all ages and walks of life who are looking to strengthen their relationship with God. The Catholic Church is a unified, visible society, i

nstituted by Jesus Christ in order to carry on His saving mission after His Ascension into heaven. Thus, the Church is endowed by Our Lord with everything necessary to accomplish this mission. First, Jesus gave the Church the authority to teach in His name. Second, He gave the Church, the Mass and the Sacraments, the means to sanctify people and draw them closer to God. Marys Mattakkuliya, dedicated to our lady of the Immaculate conception which celebrates, its 150 th Anniversary this year had its origins in the year 1861. St'Marys was then a small church built of mud and wattle. The mission which started from humble origins began to grow after the oblates took charge of the Colombo Archidiocese with continued to be the Parish priest of St'John's till April, 1932 when he was transferred to Ragama. As the mission grew , the existing church was found inadequate to accomodate the growing population. in 1920when Rev.Fr. Lagathu, parish priest residing at St. Johns Modera, decided to build a new church for Mattakkuliya.In September of that year, Rev.Fr. Theodore Laboure, OMI was sent to assist Fr.Lagathu Laboure st about the task of raising funds to build the new church with a zeal and devotion that warmed the hearts of the pashioners. the foundation of the new church was laid on 21 February, 1921. fr.Laboure was ably assisted in the building,work by K. Marku Dias, a parishioner of St. Elaris Dias, a brother of the last Muhuppu whio worked with Rev.Fr.Ilari to build the old church in 1861. During Fr.laboure's time St.Mary's had developed to such an extent that the authorities found that it could now be a separate parish. On 2nd February, 1932 Rev.Fr. Anthony Varant, OMI was appointed as the First parish priest, while Fr.lagathu the church and the great involvement workers in the activities of the parish.

*"ප්‍රථමයෝ බොහෝ දෙනෙක් අන්තිමයෝ ද අන්තිමයෝ ප්‍රථමයෝ ද වන්නෝ ය”යි ජේසුස් වහන්සේ වදාළ සේක.* (අද සුපුවතින්)

*මනුෂ්‍ය ආදරය* හැමවිටම වාගේ "කොන්දේසි සහිතයි". කොච්චර නැහැයි කීවත්, ගැඹුරට හිතලා බැලුවොත් ඇත්ත ඒකයි.

නමුත් *දේව ආදරය*...? දෙවියන් වහන්සේ හිතන විදිහ වෙනස්. *උන්වහන්සේගේ ආදරයට කොන්දේසි නැහැ. සීමා නැහැ. බෙදීම් නැහැ.* ප්‍රමාණාත්මකව (quantity) විතරක් නෙමෙයි, ගුණාත්මකවත් (quality) එය හැමටම එක සමානයි.

"උන් වහන්සේ දුදනන් හට හා සුදනන් හට තම හිරු එළිය උදා කරවන සේක; දමිටුන් හට හා අදමිටුන් හට වැසි වස්වන සේක." (මතෙව් 5:45)

ඒ නිසා කොන්දේසි විරහිත දේව ආදරය අත්දැකලා ඒ තුළ ජීවත් වෙන්න ජීවිතයේ කොයි මොහොතේ හරි තීරණය කළ හැකි නම්, ඒ මොහොත කොච්චර පරක්කු වුනත් උන්වහන්සේට එය පරක්කුවක් නෙමෙයි.

# තමන්ගේ ජීවිතය අවසාන වෙන්න ඔන්න මෙන්න තියලා අන්තිම තප්පරයේදී හිත වෙනස් කර ගත්ත දකුණු පස හොරා ට උන්වහන්සේ දුන් පොරොන්දුව මතකද? "ඔබ මා සමඟ අද පාරාදීසයෙහි සිටින්නෙහිය." (ලූක් 23:43)

# අකීකරු පුත්‍රයාගේ උපමාව (හෙවත් "දයාවන්ත පියාණන්ගේ උපමාව") බලන්න. තාත්තා තමන්ව අතහැරලා ගිය බාල පුතා දිගු කාලයකට පසු නැවත ගෙදරට ඒම නිසා විශාල සාදයක් සූදානම් කරනවා. තාත්තගේ ඒ ප්‍රීතියට මුල් වුණේ බාල පුතා වලේ වැටිච්ච අතීතය නෙමෙයි, එයා වලෙන් ගොඩ ආව වර්තමානය.
