ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ කතෝලික ඉතිහාසයේ අමරණීය නාමයක්
Fr. Garcia Florentius O.Cist පියතුමා – විශ්වාසය, සේවය සහ කැපවීමෙන් ජීවිතය පූජා කළ විශිෂ්ට පූජකවරයෙක්.
ඔහුගේ උත්සාහයෙන් ගොඩනැගුණු ආගමික සේවාවන් අදටත් අපට ආශීර්වාදයකි.

Fr. Garcia Florentius (O.Cis) පියතුමා 1815 දී ස්පාඤ්ඤයේ මංචා (Mancha) ප්‍රදේශයේ ටොලොඩෝ (Toledo) නගරයේ උපත ලැබීය. 1833 දී ඔහු සිස්ටර්ෂියන් (Cistercian) තාපස පැවදි සංඝයට එක්ව 1836 සිට 1839 දක්වා මිනර්වා දෙව්සත්හලේ (Minerva) දේවධර්ම අධ්‍යයනය කළේය. 1839 මාර්තු 31 දින රෝමයේ ශා. ජෝන් ලැටරන් ආරුක්කු බැසිලිකාවේදී (Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran) පුජාත්වරයට පත්වූ මෙතුමා සිය පැවදි නිකායේම ගරු ෆ්‍රොයිලානෝ ඔරූනා (Fr. Froilano OrunaO.Cist පියතුමා එක්ව ඇලෙක්සැන්ඩ්‍රියාවේ ( ඊජිප්තුව) දී ගරු බ්‍රාවි පියතුමා (OSB) (සිල්වෙස්ත්‍රෝ බෙනදිකානු) සමඟ ආසියාවට සංක්‍රමණය විය. එම ගමනේදී ඔවුන්ගේ නැව් ගාස්තු සඳහා අවශ්‍ය මුදල් පවා ඔවුනට ලැබී නොතිබුන හෙයින් ඔවූහු ගොඩබිමින් සුවෙස් බලා ගමන් කර නැවක් පැමිණෙන තුරු බලා සිටියහ. සාමාන්‍ය ලියාපදිංචියක් සඳහා වත් මුදල් නොතිබුණු බැවින් මොවුන් තිදෙනා නැවේ ගමන් කරන ධනවත් යුරෝපීයයන්ගේ සේවකයන් ලෙස කටයුතු කරමින් නැව් තට්ටුව මත නිදාගැනීමට අවසර ලබාගත්හ. එසේ ඉන්දියාවට පැමිණ මන්ගලෝර් සිට පොන්ඩිචෙරි දක්වා වූ අති දුෂ්කර ගොඩබිම් මාර්ගයේ වනසතුන්,සුළි කුණාටු සහ කොලරා වසංගතය තිබූ ප්‍රදේශ වැනි බාධක පසුකරමින් ඔවුන්ගේ පළමු නැවතුම්පල කරා ළඟාවිය. එහි මොන්සිඤ්ඤෝර් බොනාඩ් සමග සති කිහිපයක් ගත කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව 1845 අගෝස්තු 14 වන දින කොළඹට සේන්දු විය. 1845 සිට ත්‍රිකුණාමලය, 1847 දී උතුරේ වලිකාමම් (Valikamam) අනතුරුව සහ 1850 සිට 1900 දක්වා බෝලවත්ත (කම්මල) මීසමේ සුවිශාල ආගමික සේවයක් ඉටු කළේය. 1852 දී බෝලවතේ දේවස්ථානය (තෙවන වරට) ඉදිකිරීමට මුලපිරීය. එමෙන්ම බන්ඩිරිප්පුව ශු. ජපමාල දේවමාතා දේවස්ථානය ගොඩනැන්වීමට (1873–1882) මූලික වූයේය. මෙතුමා අපට සුවිශේශී වන්නේ "දේව සේවක ගරු හෙලේනා කන්‍යාවගේ" අධ්‍යාත්මික පියතුමා ලෙස සිදු කළ ඓතිහාසික මෙහෙවරයි. 1889 මාර්තු 31 දින ඔහුගේ පූජකත්වයේ 50 වන වසර සැමරූ අතර, 1900 මාර්තු 25 දින වයස අවුරුදු 85 දී ස්වර්ගස්ථ වූයේය. ඔහු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ කතෝලික සභාවට විශාල දායකත්වයක් කළ විශිෂ්ට ආගමික නායකයෙකු ලෙස සදාස්මරණීය වේ.
