Kurunegala Catholic Diocese – Diocesan Eucharistic Feast 2026

The Catholic Diocese of Kurunegala has declared this year as the “Year of the Blessed Sacrament,” with the theme “Eucharistic Community of Synodality.” In order to deepen the faith and devotion of the faithful towards the Blessed Sacrament, various Eucharistic activities have been organized at the parish level throughout the diocese.
Following the initiative of His Lordship the Bishop, together with the Presbyterian of the diocese, preparations are being made to celebrate the Diocesan Eucharistic Feast with the participation of the faithful from all parts of the Diocese.
The celebration will be held on Saturday, 19 September 2026. The day will begin at 6.30 a.m. at the Church of the Infant Jesus, Dummalasuriya, with the solemn exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for public veneration. This will be followed by a time of prayer and Eucharistic devotion. At 8.30 a.m., the Eucharistic procession carrying the Blessed Sacrament will begin from the Church of the Infant Jesus, Dummalasuriya, and proceed towards the Shrine of St. Anne, Kattimahana. Upon arrival at the Shrine, the faithful will gather for the diocesan Eucharistic celebration, including the special hymn for the Eucharistic Year, the Eucharistic service, and the celebration of Holy Mass.
The celebration is intended to be a significant spiritual gathering of the faithful of the diocese, helping them to deepen their faith and devotion to Jesus Christ present in the Most Blessed Sacrament, and to strengthen their unity as a Eucharistic community.

The 131st Annual Feast of St. Anne's Shrine, Kattimahana.

On August 29 and 30, 2026, St. Anne's Shrine in Kattimahana celebrated its 131st Annual Feast with a great deal of devotion and spiritual delight. This year's feast had as its topic "The Christian Family Building a Eucharistic Church of Synodality." Rev. Fr. Jude Roshan, OMI, delivered the novena as part of the feast's spiritual preparation, assisting the faithful in strengthening their faith and getting ready for the festivities.
The Vespers Service was presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Don Nishantha Sagara Jayamanne, SSS, Bishop of Anuradhapura. The Festive Holy Mass was presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Harold Anthony Perera, Bishop of Kurunegala. The celebrations were graced by the presence of a large number of priests, religious, and more than 3,000 faithful.
Holy Masses were celebrated throughout the day, from 5.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m., with the participation of pilgrims from nearby parishes. Nearly 10,000 faithful gathered at the shrine during the celebrations, making the feast a truly prayerful and joyful occasion.
On Monday, 31st August, the traditional annual procession was held with the participation of the pilgrims (those who have come from carts) and devotees who had gathered for the feast. The procession was a beautiful expression of the people’s faith and devotion to St. Anne. It was also witnessed by many non-Catholics and villagers from the surrounding areas, reflecting the spirit of unity and harmony that characterizes the shrine.
The annual feast was successfully organized under the guidance of Rev. Fr. George Linton Perera, the Administrator, Rev. Fr. Damitha Srilal, the Assistant Parish Priest, together with the Parish Council and the dedicated support of the faithful.
The 131st Annual Feast of St. Anne’s Shrine, Kattimahana, was indeed a memorable celebration of faith, family, fellowship, and devotion, bringing together people from different communities to celebrate their faith and seek the intercession of St. Anne.
