Dear Dharma Friends and Bukkoku-ji Sangha,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits.
My name is Yushi. I was ordained under the late Rev. Harada Tangen Rōshi-sama at Bukkoku-ji. After completing my training there, I have been engaged in Dharma activities in Sri Lanka.
The temple I currently reside in, Śri Dharmapālarāmaya, is located in the hills of Kandy. Today, I reach out with a heartfelt request. Recent heavy rains have severely damaged the retaining wall of our mountain temple. This structure is vital to protecting all our buildings from landslides, especially given our precarious hillside location. Without immediate repairs, the safety of our residents, sacred relics, and the temple itself is at grave risk.
Regrettably, Sri Lanka’s ongoing financial crisis has left our devotees and local community unable to contribute as they once did. Many struggle to meet basic needs, making it impossible for us to seek aid from those already burdened. In this challenging time, I humbly turn to you, hoping you might extend support to preserve this sanctuary of the Dharma. The estimated cost of repair is 200,000 LKR (approximately 700 USD).
I understand the weight of this request and approach you with humility, guided by our shared commitment to the Buddha’s teachings. Any assistance would be a profound act of kindness, safeguarding a place where the Dharma flourishes.
With Bodhicitta,
Rev. Yushi
(As GoFundMe doesn't service Sri Lanka I have asked my Dharma brother, Rev. Kogen Czarnik for help with setting up this page. All proceeds go to Śri Dharmapālarāmaya temple.)
