🌸 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒔 | මිළිනවූ ගජමුතු🌸 5️⃣
🍃 මොරගහයට මැණිකේ | மொரகஹயடை மெனிகே | Moragahayata Menike 🍃
'දේවාලෙ ගාව ඇතින්න', 'මොරගහයට ඇතින්න' එහෙමත් නැත්නම් 'කතා කරන ඇතින්න' යන මෙම මොන නාමය ඇහුනත් අදටත් අපට මතකයට එන්නේ රත්නපුර මොහරගහයට චන්ද්‍රසිරි සේරසිංහ මහත්මයාට අයත්ව සිටි මැණිකේ ඇතින්නයි. 1932 වසරේදී සබරගමු පලාතේ උඩවලව ප්‍රදේශයෙන් එවකට පැවති බලපත්‍ර ක්‍රමය මගින් ඩී. ඒ. අප්පුහාමි මහතා සහ ජී. වී. ලොකු අප්පුහාමි මහතා විසින් මෙම ඇතින්න අල්ලාගත් පසුව ඔවුන් දෙදෙනා ඇයගේ පළමු හිමිකරුවන්වූහ. මොවුන්ගෙ වියෝවෙන් පසුව ඔවුන්ගෙ පවුලේ සාමාජිකයන්වූ ඩී. ඒ. ජයසේකර මහත්මාටත් ඉන්පසුව කමලා ජයසේකර මහත්මියටත් හිමිවූ අතර 1967 වසරේදී රත්නපුර මොරගහයට වලව්වේ එස්. පී. පියදාස චන්ද්‍රසිරි මහත්මා මැණිකේ ඇතින්න මිලදීගන පසු ඔහුගේ වියෝවෙන් පසුවයි ඔහුගේ පුත් චන්ද්‍රසිරි සේරසිංහ මහත්මාට ඇතින්න හිමිවන්නේ. සබරගමු මහ සමන් දේවාලයට බොහෝම ආසන්නයේ ජීවත්වූ නිසා 'දේවාලෙගාව ඇතින්න' ලෙස නමින්ද ප්‍රසිද්ධවූ ඇය වසර 47ක් පුරාවට සබරගමු මහ සමන් දේවාල පෙරහරේ අනිවාර්‍යය සාමාජිකාවක්. එමෙන්ම මහනුවර ඇසළ මංගල්‍යයේ ශ්‍රී මහා පත්තිනි දේවාල පෙරහරේ වසර ගනනාවක් පුරාවට දේවාභරණ වැඩම කරන හස්ථීයාට දෑල රාජකාරී ඇතින්නක් ලෙස ගමන්ගෙන ඇත. ඊට අමතරව කෝට්ටේ, මහියංගනය, කැලණිය, කොළඹ හුනුපිටිය, බෙල්ලන්විල සහ බලංගොඩ ආදී දිවයින වටා පෙරහැර රැසකට ඇය සහභාගීවිය. වසර 88 කට ආසන්න කලක් ආයු වළඳා තම වයෝවෘද්ධභාවය හේතුවෙන් ඇතිවූ ශරීර සංකූලතා හේතුවෙන් 2014 මාර්තු 20වන දින මැණිකේ ඇතින්න සදහටම මෙලොවින් සමුගත්තේ තමාව වසර 47ක් ආදරයෙන් රැකබලාගත් තම ආදරනීය හස්ථිපාලක සමරපාල වෙලගෙදර මහතා සහ එම පවුලේ අය සියල්ලෝම කඳුලු අතර තනිකරමින්. සමරපාල මහත්මාත් ඔහුගෙ පුතු සුසන්ත මහත්මා මැණිකේ ඇතින්න සමග ඇති බැඳීම කෙතරම්ද කියනවානම් අදටත් සෑම වසරකම සබරගමු මහ සමන් දේවාල පෙරහැර අවසනායේ ඔවුන් දෙදෙනාම ගෙදර යන්නෙ කඳුලු සලමින්, ඒ එම පූජනීය භූමිය සහ සබරගමු හේවිසි නාදයට මැණිකේ ඇතින්නගෙ මතකය අවදි කරන නිසයි. එම බැඳීම වාක්‍ය දෙකකින් විස්තර කරන්නට බැරි නිසා එම කථාව පිලිඳව වෙනමම සවිස්තරාත්මක ලිපියක් ඔබවෙත ඉදිරිපත් කිරීමට බලාපොරොත්තු වෙමු 🥺 මෙරට පෙරහර සංස්කෘතියට දැක්වූ මහඟු දායකත්වයට අපගේ ප්‍රණාමය පුද කරන අතර මැණිකේ නුබට අමා මහ නිවන් සුව පතමු 💛🙏🏽🌸
'Dewale Gawa Athinna', 'Moragahayata Athinna' and sometimes even 'The Talking Elephant' were some of the calling names unique to this elephant 'Menike' who belonged to Mr. Chandrasiri Serasingha of Moragahayata, Rathnapura in the Sabaragamu Province of Sri Lanka. It was in the year 1932 when she was captured from the wilds of Uda Walawa in the Sabaragamu province by Mr. D. A. Appuhami and Mr. G. V. Loku Appuhami which was legally allowed by the licence system that prevailed in history. With their passing away, Menike's ownership was passed down their family to Mr. D. A. Jayasekara and then to his wife Mrs. Kamala Jayasekara, until she was sold to Mr. S. P. Piyadasa of the Moragahayata Walauwa in Rathnapura in the year 1967 and finally handed down to his son Mr. Chandrasiri Serasingha who was Menike's final owner. Due to the fact that she recided in close proximity to the Sabaragamu Maha Saman Devalaya, she was popular as 'Dewale Gawa Athinna' (The female Elephant near the shrine), and it is quite fascinating to know that she was a participant of the Sabaragamu Maha Saman Devala Perahera for a continuous 47 years ! When it comes to her participation in the Kandy Esala Perahera, she was the official accompanying elephant to the ceremonial elephant of the Sri Maha Patthini Devalaya for a number of continuous years. Menike also took part in the processions of Kotte, Mahiyanganaya, Kelaniya, Colombo Hunupitiya and Balangoda to name a few. Menike lived a devout life of nearly 88 years and passed away on the 20th March 2014 in Kegalle after health ailments resulting from her extreme old age, and her death simply left her owner and her loving mahout Mr. Samarapala Welagedara and his family sobbing with tears. The 47 year old bond between Menike and her mahouts Mr. Samarapala and Mr. Susantha is so touching, that both of them leave home crying every year after the conclusion of the Sabaragamu Maha Saman Devala Perahera even after so many years now since this holy land and the tune of Sabaragamu tunes bring back their loving memories with Menike. This bond cannot be explained in a sentence or two, wherefore we will bring to you an article on this topic soon !
