Choices

Deut 30:9 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” NLT

Decision making in life is a regular thing. We will need to make decisions between choices we are faced with. Choices could be simple or difficult. But the choices we make will have an impact on our lives now and in the future. Choices have long-term consequences.

As a Christian, daily choices revolve around prioritizing God's will in your lives. Obedience to God, love, faith, trust, forgiving yourself and others, serving God and man and spending time with God in prayer & bible study will have positive results. When right choices are made God assures us, they will bring joy and fulfillment in life.

When making significant choices , such as in relationships or career, and other important matters, Christians should pray, seek guidance from scripture and get wise counsel and examine their motives. We can then trust God to lead us even when mistakes are made.

Make the right choices by channeling them through God. He promises to help us.

Have a blessed Sabbath Day!

Easily Offended?

Prov 20:3 “It is honorable for a man to stop striving, since any fool can start a quarrel”
The NLT version puts this better “Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling”

It’s easy to get into conflict with people, to be offended and upset by what they say or do, and to want to pay them back. But you’re not supposed to engage in every conflict. Many feel that their honour is at stake if they will not dispute and fight with others. They look to win every argument by stating the last word and will go to extremes to win a battle.

This proverb reminds us that often times it is more honorable for a man to stop striving. A good example is how Abraham handled the controversy with Lot. Promoting peace and seeking reconciliation is what God expects from us.

When you are in situations of conflict, it will be good to ask yourself, should I respond? Is this a battle worth fighting? Stay focused. Don’t take the bait. Not being drawn into conflict takes discipline. Failure to do so will bring you down to the lower level.

It is wise to stay calm and choose peace than a desire to be right in some sensitive situations. Those who cannot restrain themselves have a tendency to explode at every opportunity. There is regret that follows after a quarrel and that’s not a good feeling.

Let God fight your battles and be your vindicator. You have a destiny to reach so don’t let foolish quarrels distract you from the vision of God’s Kingdom.

Have a refreshing Sabbath brethren and friends.

God will not forget you

Malachi 3:16-18 “Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD listened and heard them; so, a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who meditate on His name.”

Many a time, God’s people have seen the wicked flourish and the righteous suffer. This may be quiet discouraging but God will not forget all their good. Here Malachi writes that not only will God remember, but He will write it down! God is all knowing and does not loose memory and need to write things down like humans, but what is emphasized by the scripture is the assurance of God towards His people. It is signed and sealed so to speak.

The names and deeds of those who fear and honor Him are assured that their deeds and faithfulness will be remembered and rewarded. When God's people spoke with one another in faith and love, He "listened and heard," and their names and thoughts upon His name were recorded in this book. This signifies that God does not forget His faithful followers, and the book serves as a guarantee of their value in His sight.

This verse encourages believers, assuring them that their acts of loyalty and faithfulness, even those done in secret, are not overlooked. Heb 6:10 “For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”

Have a refreshing and uplifting Sabbath day!

A Good Name is to be Chosen rather than Great Riches

*Prov 22: 1 “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold”*

A good name is more valuable than riches, because it cannot be bought with money. It must be earned. It is positive reputation or the good opinion that people have of someone. It's often used in the context of a person's character.
Having a good name means living with integrity and gaining the trust of others. Maintaining a good name doesn’t mean that you are perfect; you repent, apologize and you learn from your mistakes and put things right the next time. It is being genuine. You gain respect by this approach.

Wealth comes in many forms other than money. The wealth of being well spoken of, a good reputation, respect, and excellence in character, is far more of value than great monitory riches. Money and assets may be enjoyed till death at most, but a good name lasts way beyond physical life.

Great financial riches bring great cares with them, expose people to trouble, but don’t add real lasting value. A dishonest person or even a profiteer may gain great riches, but a good name of an honest and fair person pleases and brings glory of God.

Whilst a good name is a good possession, we must be aware that it can be a trap to mislead one to vanity. Therefore, the only honour that is safe is that which comes from God. *Isa 43:4 “Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore, I will give men for you, And people for your life.”*

Jesus Christ led by example showing us how this can be achieved. *Luke 2:52 “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men”*

You all have a vey happy Sabbath day!

God’s Richness in Mercy

Eph 2:4-5 “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),”

Human beings are at best faulty. There is none perfect. Rom 3:10 “As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;” The standard of righteousness is not ours but God’s. Psalm 119:172 “My tongue shall speak of Your word, for all Your commandments are righteousness”. The Apostle Paul wants us to understand our complete inability to save ourselves. There has never been a truly righteous man apart from Jesus Christ.

God's mercy is a core attribute of His nature, exceeding in compassion, forgiveness, and withholding punishment we deserve. Mercy is often linked with forgiveness and is seen as a demonstration of God's love and willingness to extend grace despite human failures. God's mercy must be seen as a transformative force, offering hope, healing, and redemption from eternal death. God’s mercy cannot be earned, not even with repentance. We are totally dependent upon His mercy been extended to us. (Rom 9:15)

We are called to reflect God's mercy in our personal lives by showing empathy, compassion, forgiveness, and kindness to fellow human beings.

Have a spiritually uplifting Sabbath day!

Provocation

In our daily lives it is common to find fault with people who get annoyed or irritated. No one likes an angry person and that is understandable. Anger can lead to divine displeasure and negative consequences. But what about the one who provokes another to anger?

In a biblical context, "provocation" refers to actions or behaviors that incite anger, wrath, or displeasure, particularly in relation to God or among individuals. It can be seen as something that stirs up, excites, or calls forth a response, often negative, that causes displeasure.

Examples include the Israelites' contending with Moses and ultimately testing God at Meribah (Exo 17:1-7) and their rebellion described in (Psalm 95:8-11).

Provocation can be used to describe actions that incite anger or displeasure among families, brethren and people in general. Eph 6:4 cautions fathers not to "provoke" their children to wrath, but to raise them in the discipline and admonition of the Lord.

Provocation can lead to a loss of spiritual knowledge and a rejection of God's grace. So, one must be aware of the negative outcomes of provocation and use God’s Holy Spirit to overcome sins that could result by provoking others.
There is but the right type of Provocation: As in Heb 10:24 "provocation" can also be used in a positive sense, , which encourages believers to consider one another to "provoke" love and good works. This implies a positive stirring up or encouragement to act in a virtuous way.

This is the positive type of provocation God’s expects from His children.

Have a spiritually uplifting Sabbath day and a productive week ahead.

Run to Receive your Crown

1 Cor 9:24 “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it”*

Sporting events were big in Paul’s day and was meaningful to the Corinthians. Corinth was the center for the Isthmian Games, second in prestige to the ancient Olympics. So, Paul uses this as a parallel to encourage Christians. This analogy applies to us in this present day and age.

Here, Paul is not encouraging competition amongst Christians. Instead, he is motivating them to obtain the imperishable crown of God’s Kingdom; internal life and the rewards that come with it. In Christianity, everyone who finishes the race successfully receives his or her crown.

To compete as a Christian athlete, one must be temperate. This term refers to the manner in which Roman athletes had to train for months before being allowed in the games. Without effort, sacrifice and discipline nothing can be achieved in life. Temperate also means mild, moderate, or self-controlled. More than all other qualities, we know that without God’s Spirit and Jesus Christ living in us we can do nothing. ( *John 15:5* )

Amongst others, Paul was confident he had won his race. *2 Tim 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”*

With the help of God let us finish the Christian race and receive our crown.

Wishing you all a refreshing Sabbath day.

Overcoming Life's Challenges
The life of a Christian is never easy and is more than challenging. We don’t get time -off from being Christian. Yet, so is the reward; joyful eternal life for those who will overcome one’s tests and trials. (Mat 16:27). Even though each resurrected saint’s reward may vary according God’s perfect judgement, a life forever in the Kingdom of God will be nothing in comparison.
Here are some biblical ways of overcoming life's challenges;
1. Look at challenges as opportunities to experience God's strength and love in a deeper way. Isa 41:10
2. Engaging in regular prayer, bible study, fasting and service to others can cultivate a strong, deep and intimate relationship with God. Psalm 143:8
3. Recognize that challenges can lead to spiritual growth and maturity. James 1:2-4
4. Don't give up when facing frustration, but persevere with the understanding that God's grace is assured and sufficient. Jam 1:12 NIV
5. Trust God even when challenges don't make sense. God knows what He is doing so seek His direction. Prov 3:5-6*
6. Look to God's strength. Ours is insignificant. His strength enables us to face obstacles, tests and trials courageously and confidently. Psalm 29:11, Deut. 31:8, Phil 4:13
7. Make your requests known to God through prayer and thanksgiving, finding peace in His presence. Phil 4:6-7
Let us seek God’s wisdom, direction and power so we victoriously overcome life’s challenges.
Have a spiritually strengthening Sabbath day and a blessed week ahead.

*Delight Yourself in The Lord*

*Psalms 37: 4 “Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart* .”

To delight in God is to take pleasure in Him, in His ways and His desires for us. We must be well pleased that there is a one true God, who has revealed Himself to us, called us to share His Kingdom, and that he is our God in covenant. The Christian life is one that is focused on pleasing God in every manner as a priority over life’s desires.

We can delight in God in so many ways. King David had much to say about pleasing God by way of keeping His laws, commandments, and testimonies in Psalms 119. Likewise, Solomon shows how to delight God in our daily lives in the pages of Proverbs.

We can delight in God by what we also ask of Him. Do we ask Him to prepare us for His Kingdom? ( *Mat 6:33* ), To search our innermost life and show us the way out of error? ( *Psalm 139.23* ), Do we seek the wisdom of God? ( *James 1:5* ), Do we try harder not to quench His Spirit and live a renewed life? ( *I Thes 5:19-22* ), Do we ask for desires according to His will? ( *1 John 5:14* ), Do we delight in God on His Holy Sabbath day? ( *Isa 58:13-14* ). These are some ways we can delight our Maker.

Naturally, when one delights in God, he or she will be blessed to enjoy the abundant, happy, and peaceful life He has designed for us.

The one who truly delights in the LORD will find his heart and desires changed, aligned with God’s own desires for that person’s life. Finding delight in God is a key to a joyful and abundant life.

What is the desire of the heart of a good man? It is this, to know, and love, and live to God, to delight in Him and to be delighted by Him.

Brethren and friends, you all have a spiritually uplifting Sabbath day!
