The International Young Catholic Students (IYCS), also known as the Young Christian Students, has its roots in the development of several YCS national movements in the late 1920’s in Belgium and France. Since its creation, YCS movement grew in the spirit of the Specialized Catholic Action movements that were inspired by Joseph Cardijn (the founder of the Young Christian Workers) with the methodolo

Today, the International Secretariat is coordinating 85 national movements across the continent. The IYCS has a General Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Commission (ECOSOC) of the United Nations, and an Operational Status with UNESCO in 1998. IYCS is recognized by the Holy See and since the World Council of Kampala in 2007, has the private juridical statute according to the Canon Law 298-311 and 321-329. Solemnity of Our Lady of Sri Lanka

We come together to honour Our Lady of Lanka as the guiding light and loving Mother of our nation. For generations, she has inspired faith, hope, and unity in the hearts of all who turn to her in prayer.

May her blessings strengthen our spirits, nurture harmony within our communities, and remind us of our higher calling to live with justice, compassion, and faith. We humbly entrust our beloved college into her gracious hands.

Under her gentle guidance, may we find the courage to overcome challenges, the wisdom to act with integrity, and the hope to build a brighter and more united future for our school and for our Motherland, Sri Lanka. 🙏

Our Lady of Lanka, pray for us.

The Annual Feast of Corpus Christi was celebrated with deep devotion and solemn beauty on the 12th of September 2025 in the College Quadrangle of St. Benedict’s College. The Eucharistic Devotion and Prayer Service was reverently led by Rev. Fr. Shehan Kandanarachchi, of the Archdiocesan City Mission Service. In his inspiring reflection, Fr. Shehan drew a profound connection between the Holy Eucharist and the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary, inviting all present to experience the closeness of Christ through His Blessed Mother.

Following the service, a grace-filled Eucharistic Procession wound its way through the pathways of the College premises, accompanied by the melodious singing of hymns in Sinhala, Tamil, and English - a true expression of faith and unity. The College grounds radiated a festive and prayerful atmosphere, adorned beautifully for this sacred occasion.

The celebration was prayerfully organized by the College Liturgy Committee and the YCS Cell, with the new Liturgical Items and Kits - graciously donated by the College Welfare Society - being used for the first time during this feast.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to the College Welfare Society for their generous contribution and to all who helped make this sacred celebration a true act of faith and thanksgiving to the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

“O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine.”

Today, we rejoice in the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a radiant beginning to the story of our salvation. Her birth brought light to a waiting world and hope to generations May we, like Mary, be open to God's will and become vessels

First Friday Holy Mass – August 2025 ✝

The First Friday Holy Mass was celebrated yesterday (August 1st) at St. Lucia’s Cathedral, Kotahena, by Rev. Fr. Shehan Kandanaarachchi from the Archdiocesan City Mission Service.

In his inspiring homily, Father reflected on the life of St. Alphonsus Liguori, founder of the Redemptorist Congregation, whose feast was celebrated that day. He also reminded us of the deep meaning behind the First Friday devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, saying:
“Jesus’ desire to be with us is expressed through the Holy Eucharist – and we too should long to receive this great Sacrament.”

He encouraged everyone to participate regularly in the Eucharist and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, following the example of St. Liguori.

Special thanks to the A/L Arts Stream, the Choir & MIC, Altar Servers, Board of Prefects, Mast. Suran Perera for capturing the moments beautifully, and the Liturgy Committee for organizing this blessed celebration.
