On a morning when one problem after another kept piling up in my life it felt personal. Anybody?
Honestly, it just felt like God had left me out of all the good things that others seemed to enjoy so freely.
But as I scrolled through my news feed I realized it isn’t just me. It isn't personal. The whole world is reeling from being tossed to and fro in some kind of turmoil, chaos, or heartbreak.
The truth is God never promised any of us a life without problems.
But for some of us there are days that just seem extra hard.
This morning, I didn't want to pray, but I did.
I didn't want to take another look into His word, but I did.
Because walking out my hardest roads I have learned the answer to our problems will never be found sitting in my feelings.
Hope won't be found wallowing in my tears.
Strength won't be met in wishing things were different.
But it can be found!
One step at a time God increases our strength.
One quiet moment at a time God renews us.
One verse at a time He comforts our hearts.
One mention of His name on our lips in prayer will brings us through again and again.
I read this verse that was written long ago and yet it resonated with my heart today.
This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:
“Daughter Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time it is trampled; the time to harvest her will soon come.” (Jeremiah 51:33-NIV)
This weary band of downtrodden and dusty Israelite captives stood worn out and tired waiting on a word from God to comfort their hearts and rekindle their hope.
Babylon had crushed their spirit and dampened their hope for the future.
Jeremiah stood in their midst and spoke God’s promise.
No matter what it looks like.
No matter what it feels like.
Even when all hope seems lost, God will deliver in His timing and bring forth the promise.
God was faithful then. He will be faithful now.
I don't know what feels like Babylon to you today. I don't know what situation has crushed your heart. I don’t know what problem looms large over your life and threatens your peace and hope.
But we have been promised that hope found in God can never be destroyed. Not for this weary band of Israelites who had gone off course. Not for those of us who are doing our best to hold fast and cling to His promises.
For hope in God is forged in the fire and only made stronger in the very storms that threaten to pull us under.
The enemy can not cut the ties that bind us to the saving arms of a powerful and loving God.
Life gets hard, but it is never impossible for God to work all things for our good and His glory.
How can I pray for you today? How can we pray for each other?
See you in the field,
Susan
