Thanthirimale is situated in the first ancient kingdom of Sri Lanka; Anuradhapura that has various cultural heritage sites. Thanthirimale is located to the west of Anuradhapura and it was named as 'Thiwakka Bamunugama' in past. It is bordered to Malwatuoya, Wilpattu National Park while carrying the ruins of an ancient civilization. Tourists can reach this pleasing heritage site by traveling 18 kilo meters in Anuradhapura- Mahavilachchiya road and traveling another 18 kilo meters along the Wimalagnana road. Old Buddhist religious constructions, irrigation systems, stone carvings, archealogical sites, stone scripts, veddah's drawings and many euipments used by humans in past can be seen in the respective site. The present socio economic structure of the area is built on an agricultural background and visitors can the paddy fields, chena cultivations, small lakes/ tanks while their excursions. Absolutely the area is ideal for cultural, religious,eco tourists to gain an excellent tour experience and to keep as a memory forever.
