Mid-Week Encouragement -- June 2

"As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God." Psalm 42:1

How is it that a deer pants for water?

If you've ever seen deer in the wild, they are usually quite skittish; as animals of prey, they are nervous, jumpy, and constantly alert to their surroundings. They run off quickly at the sound of slight noises, so they tend to do a lot of sprinting throughout the day. The problem is that deer do not really have sweat glands, so in order to cool their bodies throughout the day, they have to pant (like dogs do with their tongues out). If it's an especially hot season or a deer is being tracked by a predator, it has a singular mindset: get to a water source to quench its thirst.

Much more than a deer longing for water, we see the psalmist declare that his very soul longs for God as his enemy pursues him. He knows that the Lord is the only one in whom he can seek refuge, the only one who will save him.

Are you running toward the Lord today? Are you longing for him? Are you weary? Seek him and let your soul be satisfied in the comfort, the encouragement, the refreshment, and the peace that only he can provide.

FRIDAY RECAP - MAY 29

This past Friday, Pastor Chris shared a message about "Which Kingdom?" we will serve, the Kingdom of Heaven or the kingdom of comfort, based on Matthew 6:19-24.

The big idea was that our giving reveals what kingdom we truly value, trust, and worship:
- where we invest our money follows what we worship
- how we use our money exposes what we trust
- the heart of a disciple is generous

Whose kingdom are we building?
If we aren't sure we can ask ourselves some questions.
- Do we mostly spend on things with temporary or eternal value?
- What do our spending patterns reveal?
- Is money a tool or is it a goal in your life?

This week, let's consider these questions and where our hearts are.
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Matthew 6:21, ESV

Friday Recap - May 22

This Past Friday, Bro. Jomilal continued with another of the Bible's questions that are meant to draw us in to who God is and examine our relationship with Him -- "What do you want me to do for you?" This question is actually found twice in Mark 10, and we took a look at it in context of the healing of Blind Bartimeus in Mark 10:46-52.

When Jesus asked this question, He already knew what Bartimeus needed from him. Psalm 139:2 says, "You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar," and v. 4 says, "Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether."

What is striking about this conversation is that the roadside-beggar had faith which grasped who Jesus was. Bartimeus called out, "Jesus, son of David," acknowledging that Jesus is the Messiah, the fulfillment of the Messianic promise, the long-hoped Savior. Bartimeus already had faith in Jesus before he ever met Him; when he was healed, he finally saw the face of the One who he anticipated to come. Bartimeus followed the Lord long before he ever got up from the roadside stoop and walked after Him.

What do you want the Lord to do for you? You might wish or hope for something specific, but do you believe that He can do it?

Perhaps, you are like the father who brought his demon-possessed son to the disciples and Jesus for healing (Mark 9). He believed enough to bring his son but his experience of years of suffering said something else. He said "I believe; help my unbelief!" with a humble and honest posture of faith. May we do the same.

FRIDAY RECAP - MAY 15

This past Friday, we heard a challenging message from Bro. Jomilal based on the question asked in Gen. 3:9 -- "Where are you?" More than the physical location of Adam, God was asking him about his status in relation to Himself. Of course, God already knew the answer, but as He often does throughout the Bible, He asked a question of Adam to let him realize his own state.

This began the great journey of God's plan to reconcile man to Himself, the plan of redemption ultimately fulfilled in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

So, where are you?

Join us this coming Friday, May 22, for another great message.

Mid-Week Encouragement - May 12

LIGHT. LOVE. TRUTH.

As we closed out our series on 1 John this week, we saw that these three were the main themes running through this book of the Bible.

Here are some questions to consider as we go through the week:
- What does walking in the LIGHT look like?
- What is LOVE? How do we know LOVE?
- What TRUTHs must we know to give confidence to our faith and combat the lies of the world?

How has studying 1 John helped strengthen you faith?
