For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.
1 Peter 2:21 (ESV)

He is risen! He is risen, indeed! Alleluia! Our Good Shepherd Jesus lives so that we would follow in His steps. His Resurrection brings us back to Himself and makes us His living examples of hope today.

For “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
1 Peter 1:24-25 (ESV)

He is risen! He is risen, indeed! Alleluia! Easter is not just a one-day event, but rather the one event that changes every day! While change and decay are a part of our everyday lives, Peter announces the good news made sure in Jesus’ Resurrection that the Word of the Lord endures forever!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
1 Peter 1:3 (ESV)

He is risen! He is risen, indeed! Alleluia! Easter is not a one-day event, but rather one event that changes every day! Today, we begin a new sermon series entitled “Our Living Hope.” Peter, who was “sifted like wheat,” points to the benefits of the resurrection as he strengthens Christians everywhere who are undergoing various trials and tests.

Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).
John 20:16 (ESV)

He is risen! He is risen, indeed! Alleluia! Today is the Resurrection of our Lord and the reminder that sin and death could not hold Him. This is shockingly good news – in some ways even beyond our wildest imagination. But it is also very personal good news, for with Jesus’ resurrection comes the most wondrous gift of all – our new identity in Him who lives!

So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!”
John 12:13 ESV

Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week. We begin with joyous shouts of exaltation and hope as Jesus enters Jerusalem but then quickly see the cost of His coming - the bitter pain and suffering of the cross.

When he [Jesus] had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
John 11:43-44 ESV

Death is the great leveler. Rich or poor, loved or forgotten – all of us face death. But when Jesus calls the dead to come out, our ancient foe is defeated. Today at International Lutheran Church, we continue our study of Luther’s Small Catechism and look at the meaning of Confession and Absolution as we see in John 11 how the word and command of Jesus unbinds Lazarus but also you and me.

Having said these things, he [Jesus] spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man’s eyes with the mud and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.
John 9:6-7 ESV

Brokenness is all around us. Sometimes we question the cause of this brokenness, especially when it seems cruel or unjust. Today at International Lutheran Church, as we continue our study of Luther’s Small Catechism and examine the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, we see in John 9 Jesus’ personal gift to each of us through Baptism – the forgiveness of our sins!
