Ang rewarding benefit ng Bible reading ay hindi successful life, hindi guidance for living, hindi becoming a better person, hindi rin mga leadership principles, hindi rin para masabing you are a good Christian.

The reward is none other than Christ. Yun ang motivation. That I may gain Christ! That's the goal of Bible reading.

Maybe you are not yet born again, maybe you don't yet have a new heart for Jesus.

Ang approach mo sa Bible reading ay magpapakita ng kundisyon ng puso mo.

PTr Jeffry Diaz Abitan

A beautiful paragraph, found in the introduction of every Bible produced by the remarkable Gideons International:

The Bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers.

Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable.

Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.

It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.

It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s charter.

Here too, Heaven is opened and the gates of Hell disclosed.

Christ is its grand subject, our good its design, and the glory of God its end.

It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet.

Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully.

It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure.

It is given you in life, will be opened at the judgment, and be remembered forever.

It involves the highest responsibility, rewards the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.

Joy with Jesus this year!

'The joy of the Lord is your strength.' Nehemiah 8:10 NIV

A new year can bring a mix of emotions. Excitement about upcoming plans; sadness for a year without a loved one; anticipation about school or work (hope for a year without a world pandemic?!). Whatever we're feeling, let's work from a base of joy this new year, in the good times and the challenging.

Joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit (see Galatians 5:22-23), and is something that's grown and developed in us by and through the Holy Spirit. And joy provides us with motivation to carry on: 'Do not grieve; for the joy of the Lord is your strength' (Nehemiah 8:10 NIV). Jesus himself was motivated by joy, even though facing the reality of a horrible death: 'For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.' (Hebrews 12:2 GWT).

One of the things Satan will attack is our joy. If he can get us questioning God's goodness and keeping our eyes on our circumstances, he knows we'll struggle and lose hope. But when our eyes are on God, we'll be led with joy because of who he is and what he has done for us. Whatever is ahead for us this year, let's look to God. He knows what's to come, promises to be with us, and wants to help us let go of any heaviness from last year.

So what now? In 2021, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus - he is your joy, therefore you will have a blessed new year!

This pandemic is exposing the condition of the heart of many Christians toward the church. Yung iba ay hindi na nagpaparamdam at para bang wala nang pakialam sa church nila. Yung iba naman ay sabik na sabik na makita at makasama ang church nila.

How about you?

Godliness: a heart attitude

'My soul thirsts for God.'
Psalm 42:2 NIV

Godliness is an attitude of the heart. The Bible says, 'People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart' (1 Samuel 16:7 NIV). Godliness is internal. A truly godly person is one whose heart is sensitive to God, who takes God and his Word seriously, and who desires more of him. Someone who can relate to David's cry, 'My soul thirsts for God' (Psalm 42:2 NIV). We can be rich or poor, young or old, follower or leader, active or quiet, married or single - none of that matters. What matters is spending time with God intimately, to obey him, and walk with him. It's about being dedicated and devoted to God. And out of this devotion flows a godly lifestyle. The more time we spend with God, the more we'll become like him and love the things he loves.

When we accept Jesus as our Saviour, we become holy because we are filled with the Holy Spirit, but this still requires us to be deliberate about becoming more and more like Jesus. The Bible says: 'Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things' (1 Timothy 4:8 NIV).

We need to continually ask ourselves, 'Am I becoming more like him?' - without feeling guilty if we don't get everything right. God knows our heart.

So what now? Every time you have a drink today, ask God to help your thirst for him to grow. He will love to hear that from you.

Is He Worthy?
Song by Chris Tomlin

Do you feel the world is broken?
(We do)
Do you feel the shadows deepen?
(We do)
But do you know that all the dark won't stop the light from getting through?
(We do)
Do you wish that you could see it all made new?
(We do)
Is all creation groaning?
(It is)
Is a new creation coming?
(It is)
Is the glory of the Lord to be the light within our midst?
(It is)
Is it good that we remind ourselves of this?
(It is)
Is anyone worthy?
Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave
He is David's root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy of this?
He is
Does the Father truly love us?
(He does)
Does the Spirit move among us?
(He does)
And does Jesus, our Messiah hold forever those He loves?
(He does)
Does our God intend to dwell again with us?
(He does)
Is anyone worthy?
Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave
He is David's root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave
From every people and tribe
Every nation and tongue
He has made us a kingdom and priests to God
To reign with the Son
Is He worthy?Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Is He worthy of this?
He is!
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
He is!
He is!

'Let your eyes look straight ahead.' Proverbs 4:25 NIV

Yesterday we saw how opposition can distract us from our calling. But sometimes it can be good opportunities that distract us. There are so many ways to serve the Lord, but we're not called to do everything. God has a unique plan for us: 'For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10 NIV).

Jesus used the analogy of the human body to show us how the body of Christ works (see 1 Corinthians 12). The eye is for seeing, not hearing; the nose is for smelling, not speaking. In the same way, our calling is not the same as someone else's. Opportunities may arise for us to do something new, and if God's calling us to that then we need to step out and have a go. But if God's calling us to keep focused on what he's already called us to, then we need to say 'no'. Just because people are saying we should serve in a certain way doesn't mean that God is telling us to. Sometimes we feel we have to say 'yes' to every opportunity. But that's people-pleasing, and it causes us to become exhausted and bitter.

Let's take stock of our lives and work out what God wants us to do for him.

So what now? Next time an opportunity to serve in a new way comes about, consult with God as to whether he wants you to be involved. And then, stay focused on whatever you do.

Stay focused (1)

'I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down.' Nehemiah 6:3 NIV

When it came to rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, Nehemiah discovered that not everyone wanted him to succeed. To attempt to stop the work, his enemies used threats and rumours. 'They were scheming to harm me; so I sent messengers to them with this reply: "I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?" Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them the same answer' (Nehemiah 6:2-4 NIV). He stayed focused on what mattered and refused to be distracted. And he rebuilt the walls in less than two months.

When God calls us, other people's agendas and opinions can stop us from stepping out and following him. People can criticise, doubt us or mock us for doing something that's different from the status quo. But we have a choice: to allow the words of others to distract us or to keep our eyes and minds focused on God.

When we're doing work for God and we come against opposition, let's remember his promise to us: 'Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand' (Isaiah 41:10 NLT). With God's help we can complete the tasks he's called us to.

So what now? Next time you're facing opposition and distraction while following God's call, say to yourself: 'I will keep focused on God and the task'.

Hard Work

'A hard worker has plenty of food.' Proverbs 12:11 NLT

If we don't put effort into our career, our exams or our relationships, we're not going to get the result we'd like. It's important for us to learn that hard work is necessary to progress. Having visions and dreaming dreams are important, but if we don't put the work in to make them a reality, then they probably won't. Here's some good, practical advice: 'Hard work means prosperity; only a fool idles away his time' (Proverbs 12:11 TLB).

God calling us to work is evident at the beginning of his story: 'The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it' (Genesis 2:15 NIV). When God calls us to do something, it doesn't mean he does everything for us. We have a responsibility to use the gifts he's given to us and put in the work to develop them.

But there is a flip side. God's calling us to work hard, but not to become workaholics. If we work too hard, we risk losing too much. If we burn out, our ability to love others, work and serve well fades. Instead we need to cultivate a healthy, balanced lifestyle of working hard at what we're called to and resting so we can continue to do life well.

So what now? Colossians 3:23 (NIV) says, 'Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord'. Commit to work for God in every task you do today. Does it change how much effort you put in?

Have A Blessed Saturday Morning. God bless!
