믿는 자들을 향한 말씀에서, 알라는 단식을 명령하셨습니다.
즉, 알라를 위한 순수한 의도로 음식, 음료, 성관계를 해가 뜨는 시간부터 해 질 때까지 삼가는 것입니다.

이는 단식이 영혼을 정화하고, 그 안에 섞일 수 있는 악함과 나쁜 행실로부터 깨끗하게 하기 때문입니다.

알라는 말씀하셨습니다:

﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ﴾
알-바까라 183절

“믿는 자들이여! 너희 이전 사람들에게 단식이 명령되었듯이,
너희에게도 단식이 명령되었나니,
이는 너희가 경건함(타끄와)을 갖기 위함이라.”
(수라 알-바까라 183절)

알라는 단식을 이슬람 공동체(무슬림)에게 의무로 정하셨으며,
이전 민족들에게도 동일한 명령을 내리셨음을 상기시키십니다.
그들은 하나의 본보기이며,
무슬림들은 더욱 순종적이고 진심으로 이 의무를 행해야 합니다.

In an address to the believers of this Ummah, Allah ordered them to fast, that is, to abstain from food, drink and sexual activity with the intention of doing so sincerely for Allah the Exalted alone.

This is because fasting purifies the souls and cleanses them from the evil that might mix with them and their ill behavior.

Allah said:
﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ﴾ البقرة:183

(O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may have Taqwa.) Surah El-Bakara:183

Allah mentioned that He has ordained fasting for Muslims just as He ordained it for those before them, they being an example for them in that, so they should vigorously perform this obligation more obediently than the previous nations.
