Lesson 7 Summary: Citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven
Memory Verse – Philippians 4:6:
Encourages us all to trust in God by continually praying, petitioning, asking, and giving thanks to Him, without worrying about anything.
Saturday:
Even though we may face problems, we must not worry or lose hope. God will grant us special peace and provide everything we need. At the same time, He desires that we serve Him.
Sunday:
The Bible teaches that the people we should follow as examples are those who wait for Jesus to come again. Those we should not follow are the “enemies of the cross,” who “make their stomach their god, glory in their shame, and think only about earthly things” (Philippians 3:18–20). False teachers in Rome were not trustworthy because they “do not serve Christ… but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple” (Romans 16:18). Only Jesus is the perfect example for us all.
Monday:
When Jesus comes again, He “will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body” (Philippians 3:21). At that time we will see Him (Job 19:27). The new body will have flesh and bones (Luke 24:39). It will no longer decay and will never die (1 Corinthians 15:53). That body will share in glory with Christ (Colossians 3:4). This is the promise concerning the body and life of the citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Tuesday:
Hope and dependence on God bring peace, because prayer with faith can overcome worry and fear (Philippians 4:6–7). God’s peace transforms every part of our lives.
Wednesday:
Peace also guards our hearts and minds. “Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble” (Psalm 119:165). Six important virtues we should follow from Paul’s example are:
1. Truth
2. Honesty
3. Righteousness
4. Purity
5. Love
6. Goodness
Thursday:
Ways to live a joyful life:
1. Be considerate of others
2. Be gentle/understanding in all circumstances
3. Learn to endure
4. Depend on Christ
5. Fully trust in Him (Philippians 4:10–13, 19)
We must not trust in worldly things more than in God. To experience greater joy, we should pray that God will:
1. Help us share the gospel with relatives, family, and friends
2. Help us forgive others
3. Give us love for His commandments
4. Help us love those who hate and mistreat us
5. Give us wisdom to solve problems
6. Give us wisdom to understand the Bible
Friday:
If we obey Him, He will fulfill His promises to us. He can remove the problems and fears we have. We must look to Jesus, trusting that He is able to help us.
