Proverbs 27:1
[1]DO NOT boast of [yourself and] tomorrow, for you know not what a day may bring forth.

Some people thrive on having their lives planned out. They like to have a routine, rhythm and order. Others love to be spontaneous and like to do most things whenever the mood strikes them. No matter which method is more your style, most people have some form of plans for the future. There’s that dream job we’d eventually like to have, a trip we’d like to take, or maybe we’re saving money to buy a house.
As children of God, we’re taught to live in complete surrender and dependency on the Lord. He is the One who has numbered all of our days, only He knows what our future holds, and we’re not to take the gift of the time for granted

Of course, it would be unhealthy to constantly wonder whether we’ll still be alive tomorrow. God also gives us responsibilities, and we can honor Him with the plans we have for our futures. Our eternal destiny is with Him, in our heavenly home. That certainty is what matters, and that will never change as long as we keep the faith and hold on to God. No earthly plans can ever compare to the promises Heaven. In the meantime, the most important thing is to remember that He is always in charge, He is all-knowing and all-powerful. We depend on the Lord for our futures, but this also means we can hand over all our worries over to Him. We don’t have anything to fear, because the Creator of time, space and eternity holds us safely in His hand.

Acts 12:1-24
[1]ABOUT THAT time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to afflict and oppress and torment some who belonged to the church (assembly).
[2]And he killed James the brother of John with a sword;
[3]And when he saw that it was pleasing to the Jews, he proceeded further and arrested Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread [the Passover week].
[4]And when he had seized [Peter], he put him in prison and delivered him to four squads of soldiers of four each to guard him, purposing after the Passover to bring him forth to the people.
[5]So Peter was kept in prison, but fervent prayer for him was persistently made to God by the church (assembly).
[6]The very night before Herod was about to bring him forth, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, fastened with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison.
[7]And suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared [standing beside him], and a light shone in the place where he was. And the angel gently smote Peter on the side and awakened him, saying, Get up quickly! And the chains fell off his hands.
[8]And the angel said to him, Tighten your belt and bind on your sandals. And he did so. And he said to him, Wrap your outer garment around you and follow me.
[9]And [Peter] went out [along] following him, and he was not conscious that what was apparently being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.
[10]When they had passed through the first guard and the second, they came to the iron gate which leads into the city. Of its own accord [the gate] swung open, and they went out and passed on through one street; and at once the angel left him.
[11]Then Peter came to himself and said, Now I really know and am sure that the Lord has sent His angel and delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting [to do to me].
[12]When he, at a glance, became aware of this [comprehending all the elements of the case], he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark, where a large number were assembled together and were praying.
[13]And when he knocked at the gate of the porch, a maid named Rhoda came to answer.
[14]And recognizing Peter's voice, in her joy she failed to open the gate, but ran in and told the people that Peter was standing before the porch gate.
[15]They said to her, You are crazy! But she persistently and strongly and confidently affirmed that it was the truth. They said, It is his angel!
[16]But meanwhile Peter continued knocking, and when they opened the gate and saw him, they were amazed.
[17]But motioning to them with his hand to keep quiet and listen, he related to them how the Lord had delivered him out of the prison. And he said, Report all this to James [the Less] and to the brethren. Then he left and went to some other place.
[18]Now as soon as it was day, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers over what had become of Peter.
[19]And when Herod had looked for him and could not find him, he placed the guards on trial and commanded that they should be led away [to ex*****on]. Then [Herod] went down from Judea to Caesarea and stayed on there.
[20]Now [Herod] cherished bitter animosity and hostility for the people of Tyre and Sidon; and [their deputies] came to him in a united body, and having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was nourished by and depended on the king's [country] for food.
[21]On an appointed day Herod arrayed himself in his royal robes, took his seat upon [his] throne, and addressed an oration to them.
[22]And the assembled people shouted, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man!
[23]And at once an angel of the Lord smote him and cut him down, because he did not give God the glory (the preeminence and kingly majesty that belong to Him as the supreme Ruler); and he was eaten by worms and died.
[24]But the Word of the Lord [concerning the attainment through Christ of salvation in the kingdom of God] continued to grow and spread.

Luke 1:18-19
[18]And Zachariah said to the angel, By what shall I know and be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.
[19]And the angel replied to him, I am Gabriel. I stand in the [very] presence of God, and I have been sent to talk to you and to bring you this good news.

Ref text [Dan. 8:16; 9:21.]

Maybe you can empathize with Zachariah and Elizabeth. You might not be old yet, but sometimes you feel weary beyond your age.
In the time of the New Testament, being blessed with children was vital to people, just like it still is in many cultures. In Zechariah and Elizabeth’s time, having children meant having security in your old age. Children cared for their parents when they could no longer care for themselves. You might know what it’s like to have the unfulfilled longing to have children. Or maybe your unfulfilled dream is something else. A healthy body, a united family, a partner to share your life with, loved ones coming to faith. Whatever your deepest unanswered prayer might be, you know what it’s like to be a Zechariah or an Elizabeth. You know the fear that it might be too late. But if that’s you, don’t give up hope!

God is still faithful, He still works miracles. Nothing is too hard for Him, and our ways are not His ways. He has a good plan for your life, one that makes you prosper and fruitful, no matter what your age, status or circumstances are. He knows the dreams you treasure, He hears the prayers that no one else knows about. That’s why He wants you to look towards the future. This life will never be perfect, no matter how much we’d like it to be. But God’s word promises us that one day, it will be. One day, we will have a life that far exceeds even our wildest dreams. Keep holding on to that promise when the heartbreak seems too much to bear. Lean on the Lord, pour out your soul to Him and take comfort in His loving presence.
God hears you crying out to Him, He will surround you with His love and his peace, which goes far beyond human understanding. When you completely trust in God, His grace will be sufficient for you. Ask Him to guide you and show you the way to go. Never lose faith that His will for you is even better than anything you can imagine.

1 Samuel 13:14
[14]But now your kingdom shall not continue; the Lord has sought out [David] a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be prince and ruler over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.

Isaiah 43:1-2
[1]BUT NOW [in spite of past judgments for Israel's sins], thus says the Lord, He Who created you, O Jacob, and He Who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you [ransomed you by paying a price instead of leaving you captives]; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.
[2]When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you.

Israel’s relationship with the Lord was extremely turbulent in the days of Isaiah. The people are often blind and deaf to the guidance of the Lord, despite His many warnings through the prophets who rise up and call on the people to repent.
This chapter is one of hope and encouragement, however. Even though they have turned away from the Lord, He won’t forsake the Israelites. God remains faithful to the covenant He entered into. They may be tested by waters and fire, but He will be with them and protect them, because they belong to Him.
The Lord was with them when they passed through the Red Sea, and even though the people now face the consequences of their actions—which Isaiah compares to consuming flames (Isaiah 42:25)—He is still with them now.

Let these words encourage you and strengthen your faith when it’s in danger of collapsing. No matter what you’ve done, there is always a way back. The One who created you and knew your name even before the earth was formed, has called you and made you His own. The almighty and holy God has paid a high price to save you, and He won’t let you go, not even if you turn your back on Him. As long as you’re breathing and your heart keeps beating, He will be there, waiting for you with arms wide open. Like the father of the prodigal son, your heavenly Father is on the lookout for you, hoping you’ll come home to Him, where you belong.
If you do, God will forgive and forget all about your sins, covering them with His amazing grace and astounding love.

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and love. Thank You for protecting me, in spite of my stubbornness and sins. Please forgive me, Lord, and cleanse my heart. Holy Spirit, breathe Your life into me and renew my love for You into a blazing fire, that consumes everything that tempts me away from You. Amen.

Ruth 1:16-17
[16]And Ruth said, Urge me not to leave you or to turn back from following you; for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and your God my God.
[17]Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts me from you.

Even when it feels like all is lost, God is able to comfort and help us to keep going in ways that surprise us and open our eyes to His loving care. Naomi wants to go home to Bethlehem after about ten years in Moab. She went away full, but will now return empty (Ruth 1:21). She’s even convinced the Lord has turned against her (Ruth 1:13).
But then there’s Ruth. As a woman of faith, she doesn’t fit the stereotype of her time. She’s a foreigner who’s grown up worshipping idols and living a pagan lifestyle. Ruth embodies the kind of woman Moses even warns the Israelites against, because they might tempt them away from the Lord. But Ruth absolutely breaks that mold. Instead, she proves her faithfulness and love for her brokenhearted mother-in-law and the God she has gotten to know through her late husband and Naomi herself.
Ruth forsakes all she knows and holds dear for an uncertain future in a land she’s never even seen. But she doesn’t leave Naomi. She stays, despite her mother-in-law’s bitterness and hopelessness. She provides comfort, encouragement, love and care to a woman who has lost everything.

We can be a Ruth to someone in need. We can choose to be the one who stays in the face of pain, grief and overwhelming loss. We can show others what it means to have faith and be a source of unconditional love and support. By being like Ruth, we can show them just a glimpse of Jesus in their darkest moments, when they need it most.

“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
2 Kings 6:16

How different would your life be if you’d never be afraid again? The Bible is filled with stories of people who had plenty to fear. Elisha’s servant is one of them. We never even read his name, but I’d have to think someone who serves the man of God during the time of Israël’s kings, he had to be a man of at least some faith. Why else would you serve a prophet like Elisha, who had an important role in Israel and thus probably also more than a few enemies?
Yet the servant accompanies Elisha, and because of this, he is the first one to see that the city they’re staying in is surrounded by the Aramean king who wants to capture Elisha for reporting his battle plans to the king of Israel. Elisha puts his servant at ease with these words and asks the Lord to open the man’s eyes to the legion of fiery horses that are all around them. They far outnumber the Aramean army!

Maybe you feel surrounded to. Not by men, but by an army of worries, burdens or fears. When they keep you up at night and they’re the only things you can focus on, you might be like Elisha’s servant. The army keeps you from your eyes being opened to the truth: God’s mighty presence is with you, like a great multitude of fiery horses and chariots, ready and willing to fight for you. The only thing you have to do, is be still and have faith. The power of your heavenly Father’s protection far outweighs the power of the one trying to steal your peace and rob you of your joy. Bring everything that’s wearing you down before God’s throne and let Him take the burden off of your shoulders. Leave all of it at His feet and ask Him to open your eyes, so that you will see the Lord’s guard all around you. He never sleeps, never slumbers and He doesn’t ever take His eyes off you, not even for a moment. God remains beside you, and when it’s all too much for you, He will carry you.
