Beginning with God
Every great masterpiece begins with a single brushstroke, and every long journey begins with a single step. But for the person of faith, the most important question isn't where we are going, but with whom we start.
In the very first words of Scripture, we find the foundational principle of a purposeful life: "In the beginning, God..." (Genesis 1:1). Before there was light, before there was order, and before there was you, there was God.
Why should we begin with God?
1. He Provides the Compass
When we start our day, a new project, or a new season of life on our own, we rely on our limited perspective. When we begin with God through prayer and reflection, we align ourselves with His infinite perspective. He sees the finish line while we are still standing at the starting blocks.
2. He Provides the Power
Starting with God isn't just about getting directions; it’s about receiving the fuel. Our own willpower is a finite resource it runs out when we get tired or discouraged. However, when we "wait upon the Lord," we exchange our exhaustion for His strength. You don't have to carry the weight of the day alone if you invite Him into the first hour.
3. He Defines Our Identity
The world will try to tell you who you are based on your productivity or your past. But when you begin with God, you are reminded of your true identity: a created being, deeply loved and purposefully designed. Starting with Him ensures that your worth is anchored in His grace rather than your performance.
