Happy Women’s Day 🌸

Today, we honor and celebrate all women, mothers, daughters, sisters, caregivers, teachers, and faithful servants of God whose love, sacrifice, wisdom, and strength continue to shape our families, communities, and the life of the Church.

The Orthodox Church has always upheld the sacred dignity and vital role of women, inspired by the examples of the Most Holy Theotokos and countless women Saints who dedicated their lives to Christ.

May the Lord bless every woman with peace, health, wisdom, and abundant grace.

“You are all one in Christ Jesus.”
— Galatians 3:28

Holy and Great Friday in the Eastern Orthodox Church is the most solemn day of Holy Week, dedicated to the Passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Meaning
This day commemorates the suffering, crucifixion, and burial of Christ during the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
It is a day of mourning, silence, and deep reflection, yet filled with hope for the Resurrection.
Main Services
1. Royal Hours (Morning)
Psalms, prophecies, epistles, and gospels are read.
They describe Christ’s suffering and fulfillment of prophecy.
2. Vespers (Taking Down from the Cross)
Christ is taken down from the Cross.
The body of Christ is wrapped and placed in the Epitaphios (the tomb icon).
3. Lamentations (Evening Service)
The faithful gather around the Epitaphios.
Hymns of sorrow and love are sung.
A procession is often done around the church, symbolizing Christ’s burial.
Spiritual Practices
Strict fasting (many take no food or only bread and water).
Prayer and repentance.
Quiet reflection on Christ’s sacrifice.
Spiritual Message
Though it is a day of sorrow, Holy and Great Friday reminds us of Christ’s perfect love and sacrifice, preparing us for the joy of Pascha (Resurrection).
Short Prayer
“Lord Jesus Christ, who suffered and died for us, grant me a heart of repentance and love. Help me to walk with You through the Cross, that I may also share in Your Resurrection. Amen.”

In the Orthodox Church, the Rite of the Washing of the Feet is celebrated on Holy Thursday, which carries deep spiritual meaning. It signifies:
1. Humility
It shows the humility of Jesus Christ, who, though Lord, humbled Himself to serve His disciples.
2. Love and Service
It teaches believers to serve others with love, kindness, and selflessness—putting others before themselves.
3. Equality Among Believers
No one is greater than another. All are equal before God, and all are called to serve.
4. Spiritual Cleansing
It symbolizes inner purification—being cleansed from sin and renewed spiritually.
5. Example to Follow
It is a living example that Christians should imitate Christ in daily life through acts of mercy and service.

Foot washing reminds us that true Christian life is not about being served, but about serving others with a humble heart.
