NO MATTER WHAT, THE PASTOR IS WRONG
If he is young —
they say he lacks experience.
If he is old —
they say he is out of touch.
If he visits often —
he neglects the office.
If he stays in —
he does not care for his people.
If he speaks firmly —
he is harsh.
If he speaks gently —
he is weak.
If he calls for discipline —
he is controlling.
If he allows freedom —
he has no backbone.
If he preaches long —
he wastes everyone’s time.
If he preaches briefly —
he has nothing to say.
If he starts new programs —
he is changing too much.
If he changes nothing —
he lacks vision.
If he is warm with everyone —
he plays favorites.
If he keeps his distance —
he is cold and unfriendly.
If the church prospers —
others take the credit.
If problems arise —
the pastor bears the blame.
Yet through praise and criticism,
through seasons of harvest and seasons of drought,
the faithful pastor rises each morning and continues to serve —
not for applause,
not for recognition,
not to silence the critics
or to satisfy every opinion,
but for Christ,
who Himself was misunderstood,
rejected,
and still did not turn back.
