In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. 2nd Tim 4: 1-5
Paul was charging Timothy with the correct doctrine and asking him to be ready in season and out of season. It was important that even when Timothy did not feel like it he preaches. This is because in the last days people would not put up with sound doctrine instead they will gather around people ( a great number of teachers) who say to them what they want to hear.
The reason why you who is authentic in your ministry cannot close church and give up on ministry is because there exists a great number of teachers who don’t preach the correct doctrine. But one day both the true and false teachers will stand before God for judgement.
What drives you in a preaching? Are you the kind that wants sin to be entertained or are you open to the gospel of Christ transforming you? Timothy was told, but you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
In other words, do not be steered away from the correct doctrine and neither should turn your ears away from the truth.
