GODβS WORD IS FOREVER!
Visibly during rainy season everything seems to be endowed with appealing natural beauty. Flowers look so attractive, the grass is equally green, so healthy. But no sooner the rains stop than the beautiful flowers begin to fade fall from the stalks; the grass that appeared to insinuate it's there to stay begin to turn yellow and eventually wither away. Equally elusive is the beauty of women and the masculine appearance of young men. They all are for a season. Age, sickness and other adversities affect them.
The only one who is changeless, timeless and not affected by the calamities of this world including seasons is God; He is the same yesterday, today and forever. ( Heb. 14:8)
_>>>>The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.β
Isaiah 40:8 NIV
>>>>Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Matthew 24:35 NIV
>>>>Psalm 119:89, βYour word, Lord, is eternal it stands firm in the heavensβ¦β¦β_
Did you ever think about what that means?
So many things pass away in life. Not just grass and flowers, but our looks. Health. Potential. Promises. Peace, jobs, and childhood friends. Our heroes. But Godβs word stands forever. Awesome! But who cares? Why does it matter? What is βthe word of our Godβ that we should want it not to change or fade away?
Our words vs. Godβs Word
Oliver Wendell Holmes called a word βthe skin of a living thought.β Itβs a sound that has meaning, the oral (or written) expression of someoneβs idea.
Godβs word is so much more than that. Sure, it expresses his thought and truth. But it is living and active itself, itβs not just a βskinβ on top of something else. Godβs word has power. When he speaks, things happen. Chaos dissolves, things are created and put in good order. Darkness is flooded with light. Storms quiet, the sick are healed, demons flee, death is overcome by life. All at a word from God. All at the word of God. And that Word is more than a sound or collection of letters. Godβs word became flesh. While a sound floats on the air and dies away, Godβs word is a tangible, physical person β Jesus β who is with us forever. Because he IS the Word, we can meet him in the pages of Scripture and hear him speak to us through that βstill, small voiceβ of
the Holy Spirit. And because his word is living and powerful, when it is inside us, it can make us more like him. _
*12 Reasons Iβm glad Godβs word doesnβt fail_*
I did a little word study to see what Scripture says about the word of God. Here are some of the things I discovered. Look up the verses in your Bible to learn more:
*GODβS WORD IS A βLIGHTβ THAT GIVES US:*
****Direction (Psalm 119:105)
****Understanding (Psalm 119:130)
*>>IF YOU HEAR HIS WORD AND KEEP IT IN YOUR HEART:*
****It will bring you life and healing (Proverbs 4:20-22; Psalm 107:20)
****It will help keep you from sin (Psalm 119:11)
****It will bring joy and delight to your heart (Jeremiah 15:16)
*LEARNING GODβS WORD CAN:*
***Instruct us for salvation, (Romans 1:16; 1Cor. 1:18)
***Teach, reprove, correct, train us in righteousness (2Tim.3:16; Romans 4:22-24; Rom 15:4)
***Make us complete, (2Tim. 3:17, Cf. Ephesians 4:12)
***Equip us for good works (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2Tim.2-21)
*IN ADDITION, THE WORD OF GOD:*
***Is a weapon against the evil in this world (Ephesians 6:17; 2Cor.10:3-5)
***Discerns your thoughts and intentions (Hebrews 4:12)
***Is as essential for life as food is to the body. (Matthew 4:4; Deut. 8:3)
Godβs word is always there for you!
Jesus told the Jews who believed in him that if they βcontinue inβ his word, they are true disciples and will know the truth that will set them free (John 8:31-32). The only way you can βcontinue inβ something is if it lasts. If itβs reliable. If itβs always there for you.
Godβs word is like that. It is always available, always ready to give us joy, always able to set us free, always there to help us navigate our lives and fight our battles.
Are you listening?
How can you receive Godβs word in your heart today, and hang onto it so it can do its work in you?
The word of the Lord endures forever. Let us give thanks and praise!
