Who are the BAPTISTS? Where do they came from… 🤔😳
Long ago, after Jesus Christ rose from the dead and returned to heaven, His followers spread across cities, villages, and nations preaching the Gospel.
They faced danger, prison, and even death, but they refused to change what they believed the Bible taught.
Over time, many churches and governments tried to control religion. Some forced people to worship a certain way.
Others added traditions that were not found in Scripture. But there were always groups of believers who wanted to follow the New Testament pattern as closely as possible.
Many Baptists believe these truths can be remembered through the word B.A.P.T.I.S.T.S.
B — Biblical Authority ❤️
Everything begins with the Bible.
A young believer once asked an old pastor,
“How do we know what is true?”
The pastor gently placed a Bible on the table and said,
“God already gave us His Word.”
Baptists believe the Bible is the final authority for faith and daily living.
They believe God inspired every part of Scripture and preserved it for people to read and follow.
Instead of trusting human opinions above all else, Baptists believe the Bible must come first.
A — Autonomy of the Local Church ❤️
In many places throughout history, kings and rulers controlled churches. Some governments even told churches what to preach.
But Baptist churches believed each local church should answer directly to God.
That means every church governs itself under the leadership of Christ, not under a pope, king, or outside religious ruler.
Each church chooses its own pastor, supports its own ministry, and follows the Bible as its guide.
P — Priesthood of All Believers ❤️
In the Old Testament, priests stood between the people and God.
But after Jesus died and rose again, believers gained direct access to God through Christ.
A poor farmer praying in a small room could speak to God just as freely as a preacher in a church building.
Baptists believe every saved believer can pray directly to God through Jesus Christ without needing a human priest as a mediator.
T — Two Ordinances ❤️
One summer evening, a crowd gathered near a riverbank. A new believer stepped into the water to be baptized.
As he was lowered beneath the water and raised again, it showed a picture of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.
Baptists practice two ordinances taught by Christ:
* Believer’s Baptism by immersion
* The Lord’s Supper
They believe these acts are symbols of faith and obedience, not rituals that save a person.
I — Individual Soul Liberty ❤️
God gives every person the responsibility to choose what they believe.
No king, government, or church can force true faith into someone’s heart.
Throughout history, many Baptists were imprisoned because they believed people should freely choose to follow God according to their conscience and the Scriptures.
Faith must be personal.
S — Saved, Baptized Church Membership ❤️
In Baptist churches, membership is not based on family name, nationality, or tradition.
A person must first believe in Jesus Christ and then follow Him in baptism.
This practice came from the example of the early church in the Bible, where people first trusted Christ and then publicly declared their faith through baptism.
T — Two Officers ❤️
The New Testament teaches only two main church offices:
* Pastor (also called Bishop or Elder)
* Deacon
The pastor teaches and leads spiritually.
The deacons help serve the church and care for practical needs.
Baptists believe these roles were established by the apostles and should remain simple and biblical.
S — Separation of Church and State ❤️
There were times in history when governments controlled religion with fear and punishment.
Some believers were arrested simply for refusing to follow state churches.
Because of this, Baptists strongly defended the idea that church and government should remain separate.
The government should not control doctrine, worship, or salvation.
Faith must belong to God, not the state.
The Foundations That Never Changed
Behind the B.A.P.T.I.S.T.S. acrostic are deeper truths Baptists believe came directly from the apostles:
* Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man.
* He died on the cross for the sins of mankind.
* Salvation comes by grace through faith, not by works.
* Jesus literally rose from the dead.
* He will literally return again.
* Those truly saved are kept secure by God’s power.
These teachings have remained central for generations.
A Faith That Endured Through History
Many Fundamental Baptists believe churches holding these same biblical beliefs have existed since the time of Christ,
even if they were not always called “Baptists.”
Throughout history, groups of believers were often mocked, persecuted, fined, or imprisoned because they refused to abandon what they believed the New Testament taught.
Yet they continued preaching, baptizing believers, copying Scriptures, and teaching future generations.
Their message remained simple:
The Bible is the authority.
Jesus Christ is the Savior.
Salvation is by grace through faith.
And through centuries of change, wars, kingdoms, and persecution,
We baptists believed those truths never changed.. until He comes again.
