DAILY STRENGTH

James 3:2 NKJV — For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

James 3:8 NKJV — But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

DON'T LIE - A TAMED TONGUE

The thing about lying and all the other vices of speech that surround it is an untamed tongue. This is to say, when a person tames the tongue, they can stay clear of lying, exaggerations, malicious talk, gossip and so forth.

James the Apostle says that the tongue can get quite unruly and no natural man can tame it. He then exhorts that if one can tame the tongue, the same is a perfect man who is able to rule over every other issue in their life. Indeed, scripture cannot be broken.

The tongue however is not its own master. It is the heart that is the real captain over the tongue. It is out of the fullness of the heart that the mouth speaks.

Taming the tongue therefore is an issue of a changed heart. Thus a person cannot change their own heart. It is God that has the power to do so through the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit facilitates the renewing of the spirit of our minds, causing an inner change. Jesus Christ also taught that the mouth just reveals what is going on in the heart.
The tongue reveals what you think about yourself, God and other people. The three usually go together. We cannot be thinking right about God and ourselves then speak ill of people. How we think about and treat the person we are seeing shows our real attitude concerning the invisible God.

Let the word of God dwell richly in you in all wisdom and cause a constant change in your heart. May you let the Holy Spirit renew the spirit of your mind through that very word dwelling richly in you.

The issues with our tongues are the issues in our heart. A tamed tongue is a function of a changed heart.

SUNDAY EXHORTATION: INCREASE THROUGH FAITHFULNESS

Luke 16:10-11 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true [riches]?

There are scenarios where God doesn't require from you hard work as you know it, He requires faithfulness with what He has placed in your hand or given you responsibility over. Hard work has zero effect where faithfulness is required. Working hard is very important because work is a way to express the wisdom and power of God.

It is evident from today's anchor verse that the way to true riches is faithfulness with money especially in relation to worship and honor towards God. Faithfulness is the true mark of a good steward. Stewardship is a very important virtue in the increase equation.

Paul teaches that it is required that a steward is found faithful;

1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

Faithfulness is consistent unwaivering commitment to a given cause. It is being dependable and sticking with what one has committed to. It is shaping our decisions based on our trust in God and the one place where a believer is tested the most is in the application of their finances. Further within the context of today's strength text we learn that faithfulness is the teller to whether one is serving God or mammon. The two cannot be served concurrently. This is more of a heart matter than what one does in the marketplace. It is a matter of who we trust with our needs and wants; God or mammon?

It is a fact that money is a defense when it comes to our needs and wants but the higher truth, the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom will give life to them that have it. The fear (reverence) of the Lord is the begining of wisdom. Can it be seen that you reverence God in the way you apply your finances?

Faithfulness to God concerning our application in material things brings wholesome increase. This increase touches even the things that cannot be quantified monetarily. This is the true increase that isn't just about things but that touches on stature as well.

DON'T LIE - GOSSIP AND MALICE

Many a times, people lie because they are practicing other vices. Two of the most rampant vices in most communities especially fellowships or churches are gossip and malice.

Malice is when someone gives a set of information that is slanderous or runs down the image of another person. In such a scenario because of the motive for giving the said information, the likelihood to lie is high. Usually, such a scenario is brought about when a person wants to clear their name, appear good, pass blame and or absolve themselves of the responsibility of something that went wrong. Lies are not in want in such a case.

Gossip is when information is shared about a person in an untrue way or in a way that the gossiper would not if the person was present. Because of the nature of what gossip is, exaggerations and lies will definitely fill the information given. Gossipers usually do so because they have desire to appear better than the people they gossip about.

Before you speak about anyone, ask yourself why it is necessary to do so and what is the real motive of you sharing the kind of information you are sharing. The next thing to check is whether you would say exactly the same things in their presence or what would happen if they heard what you said.

The truth about you, your place in community or your good image doesn't need you to lie about others. Malice and gossip eventually ruins your own name.

_Romans 3:7-8 NKJV — For if the truth of God has increased through my lie to His glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? And why not say, “Let us do evil that good may come”?—as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say. Their condemnation is just._

DON'T LIE - EXAGGERATIONS

The truth of God doesn't become abundant or appear much better through a lie. That is, no one has to lie to make God more glorious.

One of the most common ways through which believers lie is through exaggerations. When we add to what is true to make it more convincing or to cast God or ourselves in better light. For instance, if a person goes for soul winning and has to give a report, they would tend to exaggerate the quantity of harvest by inflating the numbers to make it appear very successful. The truth is that, the exaggeration never gives more glory to God. It actually is a pride issue where the person in question wants to appear higher than they are.

God is glorified whether it is one or a thousand. God is glorified whether the healing was a cancer healed or just a slight pain healed. All of it was paid for by the same price on the cross. There is no greater stripe for healing a tumor than there is for healing a headache. Exaggerating on a thing doesn't make God more glorious.

Anyone who is fond of exaggerations needs to come back to self and ask why they tend to do what they do it and deal with the inner issues of the heart. It is important for every Christian to know that their significance is intrinsic, it doesn't come from what they do, it comes from who they are in Christ. The rest is just a yielding to that ideal to make the significance we have in Christ visible.

Remember, everything God does, however small, is great. Everything He says to us however simple, is a profound perfect truth.

Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him

DON'T LIE

If indeed the knowledge of the truth in God is what makes you free, you cannot be a person who speaks lies. One cannot purport to know Bible truths yet have a lying tongue in their day to day lives.

The exhortation not to lie comes from the recognition of our identity in God. This is to say, we are being commanded not to be liars because we are new creation. We are born of truth; the incorruptible seed of the word of God.

Being free from the law of Moses doesn't mean that as saints we are lawless. It means we subscribe to a different order; the manner of life in Christ. We have a divine edict that appeals to our nature and informs us how to live from our identity as sons. Because this is so, lying usually stems from an identity issue.
The sense inadequacy will never go away however much one tries to mask them with lies. The image you want to create outwardly to people will only appear best in truthfulness and honesty.

Let us live from the newness of life as we have put off the old man that was born in a lie.

QUIET DOWN TO YOUR OWN BUSINESS

One very important enabler for quieting down the soul is to declutter your mind from things that barely concern you. Your mind is not the landing spot for every other story unfolding around the world. Your mind is a sacred sanctuary which facilitates communion with the divine.

We live in a generation where it is glamorized to have the latest news on anything and everything. There are media outlets purely dedicated on tabloid content and coverage over lives of people who are actually inconsequential to your growth and well- being as a person. What does it matter to you and of what value is it that a random stranger has acquired a pet or such other thing? Sadly, pop culture easily makes you feel as though these strangers are an essential part of your life.

You will not find truth everywhere. Consequently, peace is an exclusive experience for those who will mind their own business and determine strongly what gets into their mind. You can choose today to withdraw from the noise of pop culture and set your mind on things of eternal value. You can refresh and be entertained in a way that your soul will be developed and allowed to uptake what is profitable.

Don't let your mind be the dumping ground for the clutter of pop culture. Some of the things that have been glamorized by show biz are actually the scum of the earth. Your soul is meant for glory which is in the things above where we are sat with Christ in God.

MY CONFESSION IS THIS:

Psalms 131:2 Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, Like a weaned child with his mother; Like a weaned child [is] my soul within me.

I have great peace for I rid myself of comparison and unecessary conversations curated to distract.

DAILY STRENGTH

_Psalms 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And [why] are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him [For] the help of His countenance._

QUIET DOWN

"Why are you disquieted oh soul?" Asks the psalmist. "Why don't aren't you in the quietness that is characteristic of one that is in God?"

Inner noise and chatter undermines not just the well being of the soul but also its capacity for optimum functionality and connection with the divine. Here is what I found sometime back in my random reading of a journal about the mind;

"Noise is a secret destroyer of productivity.
It is secret because it impacts cognition, not effort, so we don’t notice, but a 10db noise increase (from a microwave oven to a vacuum) lowers productivity by 5%. Noise is also greater in poorer (unproductive) neighborhoods."

It is scientifically true for physical noise yet much more true spiritually for inner noise within the soul. From the Psalm excerpt today, we are taught that the way to deal with the inner noise and chatter is to hope on God. A soul is largely disquietened concerning the future - whether immediate or longterm, no one is ever anxious about the past. The future is what hope is also about. Hope is an expectation of a good outcome in the future. When we place that expectation on God, not only do we get a proper perspective of purpose but also a firm assurance of a dignified experience in due time.

See the security God offers concerning your whole life and minimize the noises and the unecessary chatter within your soul. Use that energy, time and space to consciously connect with God and produce life and light filled thoughts.

SUNDAY EXHORTATION: MADE WITH WONDER

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

You have so much value deposited in you that when you don't share it out you are robbing the world of great and effective solutions. Dare go beyond comparing yourself against what other people are saying and doing and start drawing from the treasure that Christ has deposited in
you and express it through the uniqueness of your personality.

People want an original. You are one!

Every one who came to the world came within a divine system and unlocked a portal of a resource from the heavens. Satan has actually nothing to give you. He only wants to create an illusion that you don't already have what it takea and thereby dupe you into releasing
what you already have into his hands. "Whoever DOESN'T HAVE, even that which HE HAS will be taken away."

God is THE giver and a rewarder with Good and perfect things so we know the devil isn't . You who were once darkness are now light... Made light; crafted meticulously with awesome wonder and reverence.

You are a triune being; an intricate interweave of spirit, soul and body. God's craftsmanship is very intentional and goal oriented. Through His infinite wisdom God furnished you from the bio-mechanical level of your body through its various layers and with detailed genius. He then merged it with something "immaterial" which is your soul and spirit. Its quite interesting to think of it, how He assimilated physical part of you and the non physical into a seamless unit of consciousness, emotion and volition.

For example taking the best of Michelangelo's sculptures and fusing it with information and an immaterial substance (spirit & soul) which animates the sculpture to a unit that can think, do and feel.

If you would take a moment to think of the awesome wonder that you are, you would never sulk in inferiority, comparison and a low self esteem for a minute.

Look Here; consider what is man that God is mindfully preoccupied with Him so much so that to visit him and give him honor and
majesty.

Be alive unto God. Delight in Him.
