DOES THE WORLD KNOW THIS?
In about 24 hours comes the very evening on which our Savior sat down with the pillars of the New Testament church to partake of the Passover.
Matthew 26:19-20
[19] "And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover."
[20] "Now when the EVEN was come, he sat down with the twelve."
This evening holds profound significance in the New Testament era. Why? Because on that same night, Christ instituted the Lord’s Supper (the bread and the cup), and commanded that these sacred emblems be observed continually until His return.
Luke 22:19-20
[19] "And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me."
[20] "Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you."
ATTENTION! This is a matter of eternal importance. To miss this is to miss the assurance tied to it. Christ Himself declared.
John 6:53-54
[53] "Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you."
[54] "Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."
Why a specific day and time? Scripture emphasizes “the same night” in which Christ partook of the Passover with His disciples—the very occasion on which He established the Lord’s Supper.
Note:
✓ This occurred on the 14th day of the first month in the Hebrew calendar.
✓ On the evening of this day, the Passover lamb was slain.
Exodus 12:5,6
[6] “Your lamb shall be without blemish… and ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day… and the whole assembly… shall kill it in the evening.”
✓ Biblically, evening marks the beginning of a new day. Genesis 1:5,8
Christ is the true Passover Lamb. Therefore, He was sacrificed on that same 14th day of Nisan, fulfilling the type.
It follows, then, that faithful f
