*THE LOCAL CHURCH*

*EPHESIANS 4: 11- 12*
*And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: (KJV)*

The local church is a unit of the universal church which is the body of Christ comprising of all born again believers. Every Christian must belong to a local church. Jesus is the head of the universal church.

The local pastor is the minister over the local church. Every believer must have a pastor. There is nothing like a freelance believer who has no pastoral care and is not submitted to the local church.

The primary duty of the local church pastor is to equip believers in the knowledge of Christ. This is done through the preaching and teaching of Christ. When the saints are equipped with the knowledge of Christ, they will begin to take up responsibilities of service in the church such as soul winning, prayer, preaching, teaching, giving and others.

We are not in church for our school fees to be paid or to get husbands or wives. We are not in church to get rich materially or get business connections. If you don't know why you are in church, you can't function well and will end up feeling disappointed all the time. You are in church to be taught God's word so you can serve effectively in the body of Christ.
