DON’T BE AFRAID TO GIVE UP THE GOOD TO GO UP FOR THE GREAT

Gen. 12:1 (NKJV) “Now the LORD had said to Abram: ‘Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.’”

Genesis 12 marks a major turning point in Scripture. God called Abram to leave what was familiar and comfortable in order to enter a greater divine purpose. Biblical scholars such as John Walton note that Abram’s journey was both physical and spiritual—a move from human security to total dependence on God.

Many people miss enlargement because they cling to comfort, routine, or past success. Oswald Chambers wrote, “Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leading.” Abram left stability and became the father of nations. Elisha left his oxen to follow Elijah (1 Kgs. 19:19-21), while the disciples left their nets to follow Christ (Mat. 4:18-22).

Do not fear when God calls you higher. What you surrender in obedience cannot compare with what God intends to reveal through your life. The familiar may feel safe, but greatness often lies beyond comfort. God leads His people from limitation into promise, and sometimes the path to greatness begins with letting go of what is merely good.

THE BLADE BEHIND THE SMILE

Prov.25.18 - A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

Not every enemy approaches with visible hostility; some arrive clothed in familiarity and kindness. Proverbs 25:18 warns that a false witness is like a club, sword, and sharp arrow, revealing how deeply words can wound when released from trusted lips. The pain of betrayal is often not in what was said alone, but in who said it. A smile may conceal intentions that words later expose. This teaches believers to seek discernment, understanding that not every pleasant face carries a pure heart.

Scripture portrays falsehood as violence because lies do more than distort facts—they damage identity, peace, and relationships. A false witness can assassinate character in moments, leaving scars that take years to heal. In a generation where rumors travel faster than truth, believers are called to resist careless speech and become guardians of integrity. The tongue should not be an instrument of destruction, but a vessel of wisdom, grace, and truth.

God is not only concerned with what we say, but the motive beneath our words. The blade behind the smile is dangerous because it combines deception with betrayal. As children of God, we are called to let our outward expression align with inward purity. May our smiles be sincere, our speech honest, and our intentions clean before God and man. A life of truthfulness is a reflection of divine character in a deceptive world.
