BREAKING NEWS: Kenyan Man in Washington State Convicted in Historic Identity Theft & Medicaid Fraud Case 🚨
A King County jury has found David Mungai Njenga guilty on all 11 counts for running a massive, fraudulent nurse staffing scheme that put vulnerable patients at risk.
This marks the first time in Washington state history that a Medicaid fraud trial involved a conviction for Leading Organized Crime (a Class A felony).
🔍 The Scheme
According to the Washington State Attorney General’s Office, Njenga operated a fake staffing agency called Heritage Medical Staffing, Inc. (later renamed Pro Med Alliance Medical Staffing).
He stole the identities and credentials of real, licensed nurses.
He used those stolen identities to send unqualified, imposter nurses into long-term healthcare facilities across cities like Yakima, Bothell, Redmond, and Shoreline.
Njenga kept the lion's share of the money paid by nursing homes, paying the fake nurses far below market rate.
Reports indicate some of these unqualified workers didn't even know how to take blood pressure and dispensed incorrect medications to residents.
⚖️ The Verdict & Charges
On May 28, the jury delivered a clean sweep of guilty verdicts:
1 count of Leading Organized Crime
5 counts of First-Degree Identity Theft
1 count of Second-Degree Identity Theft
3 counts of First-Degree Theft
1 count of Second-Degree Theft
🗓️ What’s Next?
Njenga is scheduled for sentencing on June 16 in King County Superior Court. He faces between 12 to 16.5 years in prison and up to $50,000 in financial penalties.
⚠️ Co-Defendant At Large: A co-defendant in the case, Everlyn Njuki, has reportedly fled the country, and a bench warrant has been issued for her arrest.
"This verdict is the result of our team’s commitment to cracking down on Medicaid fraud and ensuring the safety of our health system," said Attorney General Nick Brown.
