TOPIC: RECONCILIATION OF A BROKEN RELATIONSHIP
TEXT: LUKE 15: 11-24
Introduction
In our part 1 and 2 we dealt with some factors that led to a broken relationship between the family and their son, in a prodigal son's story.
Today we want to walk along the path to reconciliation, by looking at (vs 17 - 24).
When parties break up their relationship, there are certain effects that are felt. For instance,
1. Loneliness
2. Regret
i) Loneliness - Comes in when the moment and support you used to share with each other can no longer be felt.
ii) Regret- Comes in a two faced coin. Buy asking yourself:
a) Why did I engage my self in this relationship? ( Why did I go IN)
b) Why did I disengage my self from this relationship? (Why did I go OUT)
The most critical element that is wasted in a broken relationship is the TIME invested.
Therefore,
In my own wording, I can define,
Reconciliation as an effort to recover the time invested in a relationship in order for it not to be wasted.
You may as Paul said in
1 Corinthians 6:12a
[12]“I have the right to do anything,” you say—
but not everything is beneficial.
Remember....
In ( Eph. 5: 15-16) the bible says.........
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
When we look at our main text, we can pin point some FACTORS that can help the affected parties to walk down to a reconciliation table.
1. Accept that there is a problem with each party, to be resolved.(vs. 17)
2. Accept and embrace the reconciliation initiative (vs. 18)
3. Take responsibility where it demands out of love ( vs. 19-20)
4. Be ready to confess each other's mistakes ( vs. 21)
5. Be ready to forgive each other upon repentance (vs. 22)
6. Reunite, share and support one another as previously done ( vs. 23)
7. Reaffirm your reunion to the nay sayers, as a testimony of what God can do (vs 24).
In our next segment, we will be looking at how we can go about this reconciliation process in a biblical or holistic manner.
See you in Part 4 of this series.
Shalom
