PRAYING USING PROVERBS:
We will not work with many examples, as this is meant to serve as an example of how scripture in Proverbs is used for prayer:
PRAYER FOR REPENTANCE:
Sometimes you really wanna repent for folly, for lack of wisdom and obedience... but you don't know where to begin:
Our sin outlined:
Proverbs 1:20-25 ( What is sin? Our unresponsiveness to the solution God has given us towards what ails us. Sin is rejecting Grace to overcome whatever God already knew had the potential to ail us, so He already provided a solution ahead of time; but we reject it. Sometimes with intention to handle it on our own, or without intent to handle it at all.)
[20]Wisdom shouts in the streets.
She cries out in the public square.
[21]She calls to the crowds along the main street,
to those gathered in front of the city gate:
[22]“How long, you simpletons,
will you insist on being simpleminded?
How long will you mockers relish your mocking?
How long will you fools hate knowledge?
[23]Come and listen to my counsel.
I’ll share my heart with you
and make you wise.
[24]“I called you so often, but you wouldn’t come.
I reached out to you, but you paid no attention.
[25]You ignored my advice
and rejected the correction I offered.
Prayer of repentance sample using this portion of scripture :
"...Father in heaven, you are just in all your ways. You are the person of Wisdom and whoever gains you, gains the principle thing. If you passed judgement today against all sins committed, I would stand rightly judged.
For Lord you have called me publicly, been ready to justify me, but I am simple minded and without realising it, I relish mocking. Though your knowledge was always available, I have chosen foolishness. I paid no attention to your counsel. I have rejected your heart, your advise and your correction....
So, now that the sin is outlined, what are the steps of a prayer of repentance?
2 Chronicles 7:14
[14]Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
1. You must be God's people.
Your communication will be ineffective if you are not a part if God's flock.
2. Humble yourself.
That means no more trying to justify sin. Explain sin. It doesn't really matter why you did it. The end doesn't not justify the means in the Word.
3. Pray and seek God's face.
Prayer is simply talking with God. But you can easily talk to someone who has given you their back. Seek God's face. Let him see you, your weaknesses, your vulnerability, your true emotions...
4. Turn from your wicked ways. Wickedness is committing sin with knowledge that it is sin. Your heart must be broken , and turned to walking right in repentance.
Now incorporate this in the prayer of repentance against folly/the foolishness as judged rightly in Proverbs.
