"...And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God (LUKE 9:62)"

In pursuing a course of action, many will opt for the path of least resistance. Very few will plod daunting avenues laden with thorns and thistles. Besides, partners in a venture want to undertake such, strictly on the terms that appeal to individual whims. Even so, adhering to strict, altruistic convictions is not easy to come by.

Our text captures the experience of the Lord Jesus Christ, as He chartered the daunting course to Jerusalem, where He paid the supreme price for man's sin. He had set His face as a flint on this journey and nothing, not even the agony of death, could alter this course. As He proceeded, there emerged diverse responses from His disciples and other allies. An acquaintance wanted to follow the Lord, without a thorough knowledge of its implications. Another wanted to bury the dead before becoming a real disciple, while another requested a ceremonial goodbye before accepting the call to follow the Lord. Evidently, these men did not comprehend the demands of discipleship. To them, following Jesus was conditional and for reasons that oddly verged between the violent and the permissive.

God's call to all is lofty and holy. Those with discernment accept the call with sobriety, without the usual recourse to a pleasurable and a compromising existence. They understand that the call is laden with suffering, persecution and tribulation but the aftermath is always glorious and rewarding. Christ's call to all requires unswerving conviction and focused commitment. The call, once accepted, is on his terms only. Only those who gratefully accept the call and submit to the majesty of God's will despite the odds that will eventually receive His crown and enjoy His eternal fellowship.

Following Christ entails a complete emptiness of self.

"...And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands (1 SAMUEL 17:47)

The enemy's stature was greatly intimidating. A giant, he was! In warfare, he was a veteran; an undefeatable champion of his time. His weapons, built for his defence and for the destruction of his opponents were unique. He was proud, boastful and confident of his victory. His name is Goliath of Gath.

On the other side was a lad, untested in professional warfare, inexperienced in the intricacies of battle, fair in complexion and delicately built. He had never been to the battle front in his life because he had been taking care of his father's sheep for grazing. Though ready to take up the challenge of the boastful opponent, he could not use the armour provided by the commander-in-chief of his own army, King Saul. He went into the combat only in his shepherd's clothing with a sling and five smooth stones. With just one shot, the enemy fell. His name is David.

David's victory came through his belief and confession. "The battle is the LORD'S". His trust in God is unequalled. Like David, when accosted by an enemy, a situation or a challenge that seems to dwarf us, we should quickly realise and confess that we have the One who had never lost a battle. He is the Lord of hosts.

Whatever we see in the physical appearance and whatever we hear from or about our opponent must not be allowed to make us doubt the power of our mighty God or to shake our faith in Him. No doubt, there could be suggestions to use other strange and untried instruments of warfare. A Christian should resolutely say, "on Christ the solid Rock I stand". And God will make us to be more than conquerors.

"And the that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Galatians 5:2"

Sometimes ago, someone walked up to me and said I have known you for a long time now and you have remained consistent with your faith. I replied that is because l am dead to the flesh. A dead man does not change. Are you dead to the flesh?. A man that is dead to the flesh is not affected by the changes around him. He is not affected by criticism. If you slap a dead man, he would not react; insult him, he would not retaliate. That is the attitude of anyone who is dead to the flesh.

Are you dead to the flesh? If your sincere answer is No then let us look at how you can become so. "So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:33". The first thing is to forsake all that you have. You need to see no value in any material possession. Nothing in this world should be of more value to you than God. He said anyone who would follow Him must first deny himself (Luke 9:23).

How do you know if you have forsaken all?

I once spoke to a man about Christ and he told me that he had surrendered all unto God I knew he was not being sincere, so I said Glory to God. Brother, please, would you loan us your car for evangelism tomorrow?. His countenance changed immediately and he said You know that is my only car and I have to go to work tomorrow. So now, I want you to be sincere with yourself: Have you forsaken all for Him?. If Jesus were to ask you to sell all that you have and give to the poor, would you?. Also, the flesh is very stubborn and will not go down without a fight. It can only be defeated by fasting and prayers. The more you fast, the more life you give to your spirit and the less you give to the carnal nature. When you fast, your flesh begins to die to lusts. You would also begin to value the things of the Spirit far more than ephemeral things (Galatians 5:16-17).

YOU SHALL LAUGH LAST

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning (Psalm 30:5)

The story was told of two women married to two men who were closely related. The husband of the first woman got a very lucrative job, and within three years, he had built a house for his family of five. Meanwhile, the husband of the second woman was not gainfully employed; he was just surviving by doing different menial jobs around.

Unfortunately, because of her family’s good fortune, the first woman developed a negative attitude toward the second woman. The most disheartening aspect of this story is that these two women were worshipping in the same assembly. The rich woman taunted the other woman so much that she almost left her local church.

As God would have it, the husband of the second woman got employed by a company, and six months down the line, the company where his relative worked was liquidated and sold to his new employers.

The management of the buying company was magnanimous enough to absorb the workers of the liquidated company into their workforce, but at lower cadres compared to their initial designations.

So, the husband of the first woman had to manage with a subordinate position in the buying company, and he wasn’t happy when he discovered that he would be an assistant to his relative, and that his salary was 50% less than that of his relative, who was less than 6 months on the job.

The ways of God are past finding out! I pray that this year will end with you laughing last in Jesus Name.

The laughter that is most desirable is the one that comes last, because Ecclesiastes 7:8a says: β€œBetter is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof:” Are you going through a trying period? The word of the Lord comes to you today from John 16:20 as follows: β€œVerily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.”

Are you living your life in wickedness? The Lord is also saying to you today in James 4:8b-10: β€œCleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”

He also says in Matthew 5:4: β€œBlessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

In other words, those who mourn in repentance for their sins and misdeeds will laugh last. Beloved, to be able to laugh last, you need to give your life to Christ today, and you will escape the everlasting agony of an eternity in hell.

Jesus is holding out His arms to welcome you into His kingdom today. Run into His arms and you will discover joy and peace like never before.

Salvation Through Trust

Thus did Noah according to all that God commanded him Genesis 6:22

One day God spoke to Noah about the wickedness of the human race. The actions of men and women grieved Him to the heart. God said that He intended to send a flood that would destroy mankind, and He told Noah to build an ark to save his household and the animals. The Bible says that Noah believed God. Now Noah had never seen a flood. He had never seen a 40-day rain. He had no weather map, no satellite photograph or meteorologist to tell him that a big storm was coming. All he had to go on was the Word of God. But when the flood came, Noah was spared and saved with his family, and the rest of the generation was swept away. Noah was saved because he put his trust in God. The days of Noah are returning to earth, and a catastrophe as great as the flood awaits those who refuse to enter into the ark of salvation, which is Jesus Christ.

Reconciliation

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son ... Romans 5:10

The word β€œreconcile” means literally β€œbring into a changed relationship.” It means to bring together two parties who should have been together all along. The Bible speaks of the human race as enemies of God. You may say that you are no β€œenemy” of God, but according to Scripture we are either passive or active enemies of God, apart from Christ. Reconciliation means β€œbrought back into full relationship and fellowship with God.” This is what Christ accomplished on the cross. What a thrilling thought!

As You Wait

Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord's return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. (James 5:7, NLT)

God has placed dreams and desires in every person’s heart. But most times, there’s a season of waiting involved. Maybe you’re waiting for a relationship to improve, waiting to get married, waiting for a promotion, or waiting to overcome an illness. Much of life is spent waiting. But there’s a right way to wait and a wrong way to wait. Too often, when things don’t happen on our timetable, we get down and discouraged or anxious and fretful. That’s because we’re not waiting the right way.

Notice that today’s verse doesn’t say β€œif” you wait, it says β€œas” you wait. The fact is that we’re all going to wait. It goes on to say that we should consider how the farmer waitsβ€”patiently and eagerly. We’re not supposed to sit around discouraged; we’re supposed to be hopeful, positive and full of expectancy!

Today, no matter what you are praying for, expect things to change in your favor. Today could be the day that God turns it all around. As you wait with patience and expectancy, you’ll seed God open the door to the abundant harvest He’s promised in every area of your life!

Grow Your Faith

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
(Romans 10:17, NKJV)

Scripture tells us that every person has been given a measure of faith. Faith can grow and increase, or it can be diminished. Notice today’s scripture doesn’t say, β€œFaith comes by having heard the Word of God one time.” It’s by hearingβ€”present tense. Sure, God’s Word can transform us in an instant. But most of the time, we need to hear God’s truth over and over again in order for it to become active in our lives. The more we hear the Word, the more His truth chisels away at the doubt and unbelief that’s been built up over the years. His truth sets us free and causes our faith to grow!

Just as a seed needs water daily to grow, your spirit needs the Word of God daily. Your faith needs to be watered by His Word. It can be as simple as selecting a few scriptures to meditate on daily. Write them down and carry them in your purse or wallet. Read them out loud over and over. Let His truth sink down into your heart and move you forward into the freedom and victory He has prepared for you!

Make Way for Victory

But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57, AMP)

God desires for you to live in victory in every area of your life. The scripture says He always causes us to triumph through Christ Jesus! No matter what you may be facing today, God wants to make you more than a conqueror. Are you battling sickness? God wants to give you healing. Are you struggling with a broken relationship? God wants to give you restoration and peace. Are you facing a needβ€”physically, spiritually or emotionally? God wants to give you provision and supply all of your needs according to His riches in glory.

Notice this verse starts out by saying, β€œThanks be to God.” In the Bible, when God’s people were going into battle, many times they sent the worshipers out in front of the warriors. When you choose to be thankful and bless the Lord in the midst of your battle, you are making a way for Him to move in your life. Start today by thanking Him for His goodness. Magnify your God; don't magnify your problems. Give Him thanks and make the way for victory!

Father, today I give You thanks for Your mercy and faithfulness to me. Thank You for always leading me into victory! I magnify You and bless Your holy name in Jesus' name! Amen

There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy
life: as I was with Moses, So I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Joshua 1:5

God is worthy to be praised at every moment of our lives. He is our strength, our rock, our fortress, our shield and high tower. Proverbs 18:10 tells us that the name of the Lord is a strong tower that the righteous can always run to at any time and remain secure. The Almighty God is the security upon which one should base his life. These days when there is no nation that does not have its own share of the global security crises, it is certain that unless the Lord watches over you, you become vulnerable to the evil events flying around. God is the only guarantee and assurance of our faith; hence, you can be confident that you will always be delivered even in extreme circumstances. Sometimes, God will allow us to fall into a great calamity before He comes visiting. He does this just to reassure you that nothing is over until He says so. He wants us to have an evidence of His deliverance in our lives for future purposes.

Are you in any problem? Don’t worry, as long as you are righteous, you can be assured that help is on the way. He rules in the affairs of men to deliver the righteous from calamity. It doesn’t matter the magnitude of the problems confronting you, just believe that He is never late. He will stand by you during all the attacks of the enemies. All the lies and ganging up of the enemies against your life may be launched, but you will come out victorious because you have made the Lord your delight. Several times, God will just want to stand by you in order to convince those around you that it doesn’t matter how much the waters the enemies want to sink you in is, His faithfulness will always draw you out.

God is King over all nations of the world. He is mightier than those who are playing god in your life. As we saw His acts in th

Jesus said unto him, if thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth (MARK 9:23)

A child named Thomas A. Edison came home with a letter from school. The content of the letter was: "Your son is mentally deficient; we cannot let him attend our school anymore. He is expelled". Edison's mother's eyes welled with tears as she said aloud positively, "Your son is a genius. This school is too small for him and doesn't have good enough teachers to train him..." The mother took up the tutoring of Thomas effectively and successively until she fell ill and passed on. Many years after Edison's mother died, he became one of the greatest inventors in the century. Edison was a mentally deficient child, whose mother turned him into the genius of the century. Faith produces something from nothing.

In our passage, Jesus upbraided His disciples for their inability to heal an epileptic child brought to them. He described their failure as resulting from their lack of faith. Faith in God's promises and faithfulness changes situations and circumstances.

Nothing is impossible for a man or woman of faith. Whoever exercises faith always dwells in the realm of the supernatural. He visualises God's unlimited supply, unquestionable authority over circumstances, unrestrained power over nature and His control over all issues. If prayer is the "staff" with which a Christian walks with God, then faith is the "key" to open God's treasure-store.

Without faith, we cannot attain His presence or obtain anything from Him. How rich are you in faith? Build up your faith and experience victory and rest on all sides.
