How was your posture when a person who wronged you came back?

Did you struggle to receive them?

Did you find yourself remembering the pain more than celebrating the restoration?

Many times, we pray for the people who have wronged us. We ask God to change them, heal them, restore them, and bring them back to Himself. Yet when God answers those prayers, many of us discover that we were not prepared to receive them.

One of the most beautiful parts of the story of the prodigal son is not only that the son came back to his senses, but that the father was willing to welcome him back.

While the son was still a long way off, the father saw him, was filled with compassion, ran to him, embraced him, and restored him.

The son came with a speech prepared to become a servant, but the father responded with a robe, a ring, sandals, and a celebration.

May God not only make us people who pray for restoration, but also people who are prepared to receive and celebrate it when it comes.

Perhaps one of the hardest prayers we can pray is:

"Lord, give me a heart that is ready to receive the people I am asking You to restore."

"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him."— Luke 15:20
