Nairobi International Lutheran Congregation

Nairobi International Lutheran Congregation NILC is a place of worship.

At the heart of our congregational life is Sunday worship when God’s people gather to hear God’s Word, receive Christ’s Body and blood of Jesus Christ in the Holly Eucharist.

Deeply saddened by the passing on of pastor Bob Schmalzle , the founding pastor of the Nairobi International Lutheran Congregation,We will remember him for the great enthusiasm, charm, smiles, interest and empathy in everyone in the church, especially the vulnerable; the mobilisation of the youth in the church through activities such as cleaning the environment in the church compound and along Ngong Road down to Junction, monthly mystery trips for the youth once a month after the Sunday worship service; Bible studies, monthly gathering for the agape meal at Mamba village with lots of fun for the youth and children. He created a strong sense of the NILC community that will forever be remembered. Above all Pr. Schmalzle had great dedication to his pastoral duties which included meticulous timekeeping for services, inspiring sermons based on the liturgical calendar. He visited the sick and the bereaved and encouraged them to be comforted by the hope in Jesus and eternity. We pray for his dear wife Denise and his children, Aaron and Jacob, the extended family and the church family of the parishes he served both in Kenya and abroad.

Philippians 4:7
7. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I’m not going to tell you not to cry or not to experience emotions. Emotions are God-given. They are a part of who we are.

Jesus Himself said, “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)
Rest in peace Pr. Bob.
