Today in Nairobi, the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya (AOSK) joined government agencies, players in the private sector, environmental advocates, and community members in marking World Environment Day 2026.
The participation was spearheaded by the Sisters Led Youth Empowerment Initiative (SLYI), which brought together students from Technical and Training Institutions (TTIs) under this year's theme, "Climate Action Through Sustainable Waste Management".
The event was characterized by a procession through Nairobi's Central Business District aimed at creating public awareness on environmental conservation and sustainable waste management practices. Participants also took part in a tree-planting exercise, engaged communities through environmental awareness campaigns, and witnessed the launch of waste sorting bins to promote proper waste segregation and recycling.
The activities highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges, reducing pollution, and building climate-resilient communities. Through awareness creation, practical demonstrations, and community engagement, participants were encouraged to adopt sustainable practices that contribute to a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment.
AOSK remains committed to empowering young people to become champions of environmental stewardship, recognizing that meaningful climate action begins with informed and engaged communities.
