🎓 Celebrating a Pillar of Interfaith Peace in Kenya!

The Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) warmly congratulates Rt. Rev. Willybard Kitogho Lagho, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Malindi, on the conferment of an Honorary Doctor of Theology degree a recognition richly deserved.

The solemn award ceremony was organised by Global Ministries University (GMU) in collaboration with the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and the Commission for Interreligious Dialogue and Ecumenism (CIRDE). It was a beautiful and moving tribute to Bishop Lagho's decades of dedicated service to interfaith understanding, peacebuilding, and dialogue in Kenya and far beyond.

For IRCK, this occasion carries special meaning. Bishop Lagho served with distinction as Chairman of the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya, and his leadership during that time helped shape the Council's vision for a Kenya where faith communities walk together in unity, mutual respect, and shared purpose. We celebrate this milestone with him and with all who have journeyed alongside him in this noble calling.

🔴 EBOLA ALERT | Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD): Know the Signs. Act Fast.

In solidarity with faith communities and interreligious councils in countries currently affected by the Ebola (Bundibugyo Virus Disease) outbreak, IRCK is sharing critical awareness messages on behalf of our partners UNICEF Kenya World Health Organization (WHO) Africa CDC and IFRC.

⚠️ BVD is a form of Ebola currently affecting DRC and Uganda. Unlike previous Ebola outbreaks, there is currently NO approved vaccine or specific medicine for this type.

🚨 Know the symptoms: sudden fever, fatigue, muscle pain, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea, sore throat. If you or someone near you shows 3 or more of these symptoms suddenly contact health authorities IMMEDIATELY. Do not wait.

✅ Early care saves lives. Treatment centres provide free care, medicine, food, water, and dignity.

Religious and community leaders: you are trusted voices. Use every platform and gathering to share accurate information, counter rumours, and encourage your communities to seek care early.

Kwale Women of Faith: Building Digital Safety & Stronger Communities

On 21st May 2026, Kwale Women of Faith Council convened in Diani, Kwale County under the Lifting Voices programme, implemented by the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) in partnership with Religions for Peace (RfP).

The council reviewed programme progress before diving into a Capacity Building Workshop on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV), a rapidly evolving form of GBV that is increasingly affecting women and girls in our communities. Through interactive sessions, the women built awareness on the different forms of TFGBV, including online harassment, cyberstalking, and non-consensual sharing of intimate images. They also gained practical skills in digital safety, privacy protection, and safe reporting mechanisms and left with concrete action plans to cascade this knowledge across their communities.

The following day, led by Network Chairperson Sharon Mungai and Sr. Agata, the group took the work to the ground reaching over 100 participants in Makongeni Village, Msambweni Sub-County. The outreach covered peace and social cohesion, GBV awareness, and cancer sensitisation. Women named the silent crisis of unreported violence, the grip of substance abuse, and a deeply concerning practice in the Makonde community where men withhold national ID cards from women to restrict their independence.

🕊️ WE EMBRACE PEACE: LIMCO Project Officially Launched in Marsabit County!

On 19th May 2026, faith leaders, religious communities, and interfaith networks of Marsabit County stood together at Marsabit Paradise Inn to launch the Leveraging Interfaith Mechanism for Conflict Mitigation (LIMCO) project a faith-led, community-owned peacebuilding initiative in Saku and Moyale Constituencies.

The two-day launch brought together implementing partners IRCK, Christian Aid, and Islamic Relief Kenya alongside religious leaders, county officials, and community representatives for a co-creation and design sessions that included stakeholder mapping, group discussions on priority activities, a media engagement session, and a presentation of the baseline survey inception report.

LIMCO will operate through four pathways: strengthening the Marsabit Interfaith Council, building Early Warning & Early Response systems, enhancing social cohesion, and advancing advocacy and strategic linkages.

"Our success will be measured not in distant offices or project reports, but in our communities, homes, markets, mosques, and churches." - reiterated Mr. Linus Nthigai, Executive Director, IRCK

Faith leaders in Marsabit County are proving that dialogue works.
Through the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya's interfaith platform, Muslim and Christian leaders have come together and the conversations are bearing fruit.

Where there was tension, there is now a path forward. Where there were hard questions, there is now a shared commitment. We believe that no community challenge is too great when faith communities choose dialogue over division.

🗳️ IEBC Validates 2024–2029 Strategic Plan & Electoral Operations Plan Ahead of 2027 Elections

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) conducted an External Stakeholder Validation Forum for its 2024–2029 Strategic Plan and 2025–2027 Electoral Operations Plan (EOP), a significant milestone in Kenya's electoral preparedness.

The Commission underscored that the Strategic Plan will guide the Commission's priorities, institutional reforms and objectives over the coming years. It was noted that the Electoral Operations Plan complements it by translating these objectives into concrete activities, timelines, and resource requirements for the 2027 General Election.
IEBC also reaffirmed commitment to transparency and stakeholder engagement, emphasizing that opening these frameworks for public review promotes accountability, builds public confidence, and ensures shared ownership of Kenya's electoral process. The Commission has a vision to build a resilient, inclusive and trusted electoral management body; one committed to deepening Kenya's democracy and delivering an inclusive, participatory, peaceful, credible, verifiable and efficient 2027 election.
📌 The draft Strategic Plan 2024–2029 is anchored on four Key Result Areas:
✅ Managing Elections
✅ Citizen Engagement and Participation
✅ Equitable Representation
✅ Institutional Resilience
Commissioner Dr. Ann Nderitu, CBS, Chairperson of the Election Operations Committee, observed that the Strategic Plan comes at a critical moment and provides a clear roadmap for the next five years, anchored on Article 81 constitutional principles and global electoral standards.
